Trying to determine bad panel or t-con on Proscan TV

Heya! I've acquired a Proscan 42LED55SA tv that originally would turn off after about 2 minutes or less. Changing out the caps on the PCB solved that problem, but I was left with sound and a screen full of vertical red/green/grey-black lines (I've attached a picture attempting to show this, but still difficult to pic up with my camera!). I checked all the regulators on the t-con and the main board, and they all check out fine.

Since I saw lines on the screen, I decided to get another t-con supposedly out of a working set with a damaged screen, and I get 1/2 screen with a negative like image, and 1/2 screen full of grey and white banding. I've checked the ribbon connectors for proper seating with the picture staying the same each time.

The only "odd" thing I can find on any board is that one set of output voltages from my PCB to the Main is a 16VDC output putting out 17.2VDC (the 3.3, 5, and 24V outputs are all o.k.). Would this cause a problem, and how would I find the culprit on the board? If this wouldn't affect anything, could anyone offer a suggestion as to whether the problem is the t-con or panel (or something I've not thought of yet!!)? Thanks!!

Re: Trying to determine bad panel or t-con on Proscan TV

What is the voltage going to the T-con? Some T-cons use that voltage directly to drive the screen, if it is too high, it can cause problems. Personally I would suspect the T-con as it is rare for the whole panel to fail at once. It is possible, but rare.

      Thanks for the reply tom!

I have 11.82VDC at the fuse on the t-con, and 3.3V at the regulator. I had a hard time thinking it was the panel either, but with a supposedly new t-con, I figured it would clear up, unless it also was bad, or the wrong one for the tv (I got the same p/n, but some of the other board info was diffrent )

Re: Trying to determine bad panel or t-con on Proscan TV

I saw a video on youtube where someone used cold spray/component cooler and sprayed it at the front edge of a lcd screen under the plastic bezel so it would get into the screen and if it corrected the lines in that area the screen was bad, I have never tried this and not sure about this method, but you may want to check into it or see if anyone has any advice about it.

LG 82UN8570AUD ~ TCON or PANEL?
          by kca
          Hello all ~

Hope this finds you well. This LG 82UN8570AUD (April 2021 model) 4K UHD television has full audio capabilities but video is compromised / problematic.

When I picked up this large LG tv it had a full black screen upon startup. Previous owner said it just went black one day. No popping sound or anything else of note.

I got the display to work by taping off several traces of the right-hand side ribbon cable on the TCON that leads from TCON to PANEL. However, despite dozens and dozens of attempts to find the right combination / range of traces taped...

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
          by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

TCL 43S423 TCON OR PANEL FAULTY???
          by netgearnetgear
Good day, I have a TCL TV: Model 43s423. After turning ON the TV, the ROKU TV logo appears with fine lines over the whole screen, then after a while there are vertical bands in the middle of the screen top to bottom and the TV tries to update its firmware but I do not have the remote to connect it to my new network connection. Also the Power ON light blinks 2 times in quick succession. When I remove the ribbon on the right of the tcon board the left side of the screen shows but with fine lines. If I remove the left side ribbon and connect the right side ribbon the whole screen is blank with...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
          by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
          by iglitare
          Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...
