So I got this thing broken. When I go to test it, it will turn on and function as a completely normal TV. When I hit the power button when it's cold, it will turn back on when I hit the power button. It will not after being turned on for a long time. And it will run for as long as you want until you turn it off. I brought it to my apartment to temporarily use and now it won't even turn on...All the caps look good on both the main board and the power board although not a fan of the cap choice. Is it probably the voltage regulators on the main board? I'll get my multimeter back tomorrow. In the meantime, is there any ideas to what it could be?

Re: Vizio 37" having intermittent issues
Sounds like an intermittent regulator though Vizio I know used some crap caps in their 37" PSUs.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Vizio 37" having intermittent issues
Yeah I'll have to check the regulators. The caps on the PSU are Sam Young on the secondary and a NCC on the Primary. Some of the Sam Young's looks like there's pressure in between the vent stamps but not bulging towards the middle, know what I mean?Comment

Re: Vizio 37" having intermittent issues
I prefer these types of problems rather than the intermittment ones. I have an ATX power supply that sometimes works and then dies and sometimes it doesn't power on. I wish it would just do the latter and then I can start troubleshooting it.--- begin sig file ---

Re: Vizio 37" having intermittent issues
Okay so I got around to testing this thing. Let me know if there are more I need to test if I missed any. Looks like I have at least 1 bad voltage regulator...Here are the results:
#1
Pin 1 = 0.000
Pin 2 = 1.252
Pin 3 = 3.326
#2
Pin 1 = 2.056
Pin 2 = 3.306
Pin 3 = 5.050
#3
Pin 1 = 0.000
Pin 2 = 0.000
Pin 3 = 0.000
#4
Pin 1 = 0.559
Pin 2 = 1.816
Pin 3 = 3.333Last edited by Pentium4; 10-24-2012, 09:09 PM.Comment

Re: Vizio 37" having intermittent issues
1) What is the part number for #3?
2) Are there any DC voltages on the caps around the #3 regulator?
3) Are there any DC voltages on the resistors around that #3 regulator?
4) Can we get a close up shot of that area?--- begin sig file ---

On pin 3 of TU8 (regulator #3), see what it has continuity to. Namely, does it have continuity to any pins on TU1 or the caps TCE5 and TCE6?--- begin sig file ---

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

We've had our Vizio VO42L since before 2010, and it's worked flawlessly this entire time. However, just recently it started emitting a high-pitched buzzing/humming sound. I followed the basic troubleshooting tips of just unplugging it for a moment, and even holding down the power button while doing so, all to no avail.
Furthermore, after I attempted these basic steps and powered the TV back on it would always begin visually flickering while the sound stuttered. After a few moments of being turned on this would go away, but it still periodically comes back.

by xeosI have this Vizio VO370M TV that I'd like to save because it has very low input lag (as good as the most expensive TVs sold today!, https://alantechreview.blogspot.com/...input-lag.html), but it has a very annoying issue: sometimes the backlight flickers (or is just kind of dim). The flicker is slower than 60hz, so we aren't just talking some kind of motion compensation).
I was hoping maybe it was a power board issue (aka failing caps) but I opened it up and I don't see any that look bad. I have a budget capacitance/ESR meter if it's worth checking those... -
