I had a dell 1525 that was doing the same thing. Mine had a tinny burn whole on the power control chip, about the size of the head of a pin, burned in it. The chip is located just above the battery terminals. I just replaced the board because the boards are cheap for the 1525.
Re: Hanns G HG281D 2 second black screen and parts help
So I had the same problem with the backlight turning off and squiggly lines. At first I re-capped the power board which did not fix the problem. Then I found two 100uf 16v by the two power transistors that were bad. Problem fixed after I replaced them.
I have a L305D, same board I think? The system was working but when the ac adapter was plugged in, sometimes the system was switching from AC to Battery very rapidly. You could see this in windows. I used a universal AC adapter that had more amperage than the original and the system stopped switching and was running fine. The thing that I did notice was that there was a high pitch sequel coming from somewhere on the board, just around the battery terminals. Then sure enough the system died, no power. This sounds like the same problem that you are having...
Okay, so the problem came back, I thought that just cleaning the DC Jack was too simple. It turned out the the transistor marked 1127 BN4 553 was defective. I removed one from a parts board, no more problems.
I had this same problem just the other day. I removed the magsafe DC Jack, cleaned it with De-natured alcohol and re-installed it. And it worked. Maybe it was the cable connection to the MLB or the pins to the AC adapter, but I was surprised that it worked after that.
Looks like the standard connector from a laptop modem. Just cut one out of your nearest dead laptop. You know you can take the pin out of the connector and solder your wire to the pin, then just stick it back into the connector. I'm just saying because it sounds like you broke one.
I know that a lot of you have been f&^$ing around with DV boards since their warranties expired. And I know that some of you are electronic genius level folks. So the question is, is it possible to convert an Intel DV board with the nVidia GPU to an Intel board without the nVidia GPU?
Let's take a DV9000 with the 434660-001 board with the nVidia Go 7600 and convert it to the 447984-001 without the nVidia GPU. Someone has to have the schematics for these two boards. What is involved as far as bypassing the dedicated graphics?...
Had this same problem with a Gateway. The first thing that I found was that it had a shorted CMOS battery, which I thought was strange. I replaced the battery, checked all capacitors, swapped processors, reflowed the northbridge, then reflowed the southbridge. Still no go. If you remove the battery and short out CMOS chip for about 30sec, the system would POST, but if you would make any settings to the BIOS and save the settings, the system would not POST again. I was thinking that it was a bad CMOS, but I put too much time into the system...
It most likely is the GPU. I have had the same issue with a white screen on a DV5 with the AMD GPU and a reflow worked. I have also had no video with the caps lock flashing caused by a bad AMD processor. Be sure to test with a compatible CPU. Also make sure that you test the system on an external monitor with the LCD cable disconnected from the mainboard, to rule out a shorted cable.
I have good success with reflows but I do get the occasional rework. And you are right re-balling just takes way too much time.
Does anyone know if there is any way to bypass the dedicated nVidia chip on the intel DV boards and just use the intel northbridge for the graphics? I've never tried just to pull of the GPU and RAM, but I'm sure that there is something else on the board that differentiates the boards.
I have a donor board, I can replace the EFI chip if you think that is what it is. I am very good at replacing surface mount ICs, I just don't know what to do at this point. Thanks for your reply, I don't want to give up on this project, I need to figure this out.
Okay, well I got this (mid 2007) macbook in, the symptoms are that the system would turn on and start to load the OS the apple logo would appear and the system would pong on the startup, then it would reboot. I was thinking it was the hard drive or the ram, but after further inspection I found that the sleep indicator light does not work and the system would not see any bootable USB drives. I reset the SMC, and PRAM, disconnected the PRAM battery and discharged the board. I pulled the hard drive, airport card, disconnected the hard drive cable, isight cable, using a test ac adapter, test battery,...
I don't think that your cable could have broke while the computer was assembled. It may have broke when you were taking it apart. I have a feeling that once you get the new cable you will still have power issues with the computer. The G60 are notorious for power issues. If you read around you will find many people having issues with the G60. Most people recommend that you remove the battery and hold the power button for 20 sec. I think that it is a design flaw, in that, the power control chip is located really close to the battery terminals, so that when...
I have had that same issue before on a 600m. I had to reflow the southbridge to get the USBs to work again. However since they work working before you started swapping USB drives, I don't know if this is your problem. Did you remove the board from the case? you may have cracked a solder joint somewhere.
