    Phillips 50" Plasma - 50PF7321D/37

    Hi All,

While watching TV at very random times the picture goes black. It still has sound and appears to still have back lighting. Not sure if this will help but when it happens all I have to do is smack the back of the TV and the picture comes back. Also sometime I get the rainbow of vertical colored lines just before it blacks out.

I opened her up yesterday and found what I believe to be two bad caps. One is easily fixable and seems to be just slightly raised. The second (left arrow in photo) I can not see very well because it is under a heat sink. It apears to be leaking slightly. I am looking for any sdvice you might have and links to where I can purchase these capacitors.

    Thank you for any help!
    Kevin

Here is one (and can use as an example) for the first one

They both look bad (from my perspective) but the fact you can hit it and it work again is strikingly odd. (sorry :P)

But on a serious note, I would just make sure all your connectors are seated correctly, especially ribbon types.

I'd replace all of them except the big input caps, they're Samwha...they're all doomed to bulge eventually. You can leave those Samxon caps those should be good. List all the specs of the caps so we can give you proper links

Yes it is very weird! 95% of the time the TV works perfectly. But it is annoying to have to get up once or twice a day to smack the back of the TV. Yes I know this sounds lazy but its hard when you have a sleeping baby in your arms... Thanks for the link and the advice! It looks like that one is perfect for the first one. The one under the heat sink unfortunately I can not see so I will have to wait till I have time to really take it apart before I can give the specs on it.

If you hit it and it comes back on then it is likely a loose connector or cold solder joint.

Leave the back off (well away from kiddies) and when it does it again slightly flex each circuit board to see which is the problem. Use a bit of wood to do it.

Then when you have found the board look for cold or poo solder joints.
Do NOT touch heatsinks when testing for voltages as they may be LIVE!

Thanks Gill71984, I will have to try that. The trick will be keep my 4 year old away from it.

Oh make sure the dimensions are correct for the capacitors - that's the only criteria I couldn't match but it'll be slightly annoying when the cap is taller than the heatsink lol
