Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
hi, budm do I have to remove the F1 black fuse to jump it? or I do it without removing the fuse? Buy the way I have only 30w soldering iron now. But I have ordered one 60w.

Hi budm, you said the black F1 fuse might be bad. Do I have to remove the fuse before I jump it with wire?
I have only 30w soldering iron. But I have ordered one 60w soldering iron. I have not received the fuse yet though. Will jump with wire anyways. But was not sure if it is necessary to remove the fuse or not.Leave a comment:

Are you talking abut the lamps light up half way instead of the full length of the lamp as shown in other thread? If that is the case, it has nothing to do with the UC chip or what ever that is, the lamps are just not getting enough power fully ionize the gas inside the lamps. Master/Slave inverter setup as a push-pull drive to drive the lamps, both of them have to work together.Leave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
from my research the half screen darkness happens from bad joint on shift register. One UC chip. There is a technique to test it. I did and mine had bad shift register joint. The TV used to work perfectly bright after about half an hour. If you gently pull/twist the tv the tv get bright light. That is the way to test if the shift register connection bad or not.
I had this issue.
I am going to jump that black Fuse to see if I can get the back light work againLeave a comment:

Let see if he finds any bad ballast caps in the lamp assembly, that will explain the half screen brightness, that symptom can also be only one of the two inverter is working.Leave a comment:

The tv was actually working last week. Had one issue only hafl screen darker for half an hour. So I think the ccfl is still good. I open the back and must have shorten something. The screen turned off suddenly and only sound was there.Leave a comment:

By the way, worst case will be bad lamps.

It uses the same inverter boards as yours.
Two out of two have bad lamps.Last edited by budm; 09-17-2012, 06:41 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
Yes you can, just make sure that you did not create any solder bridge. By the way, what are the P/N the two inverter boards as printed on the labels?
To remove the old fuse, use good 40watts soldering iron and add more solder to both ends and go back and forth with the soldering tip while using the tweezer to remove the fuse.Last edited by budm; 09-17-2012, 03:47 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
I could not find any 1 Ohm resistor at local store. I had to order it from ebay.
Can I just jump the resistor with small cable/wire for now and see what happen?Leave a comment:

That balck fuse is bad!
"So check the black fuse, if that fuse is open, the PWM IC will not have the voltage for it to run, so the ERROR signal from this IC will be 0V = BAD."
As I have explained, when that small fuse is blown, the pwm IC will not have the voltage to supply the power to make it run, the ERROR signal is generated by the PWM IC circuits, that is why the ERROR signal is 0 Volt as you measured.Leave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
yes budm looks very knowledgeable. He knows ins and out of this board. I will have to go get one fuse from radioshack. I will post the result after I put the resistor in.Leave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
I am getting Inverter ERROR PIN 11= 6.1mV and black fuse F1 very high resistance.
and VL_ON pin 12= 3.29V
Is this reading ok?Leave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
yes realy it can be done i am still a novice at repairing lcd s etc but have done a few of these fuses just take your time if you have not got a fuse use a 1 ohm quarter watt resistor just fot testing thats all i do once i know thats my only problem i order the correct fuse.Leave a comment:

do I have to solder the fuse , as the fuse on the board is really tiny?Leave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
did you change the fuse as in budm post 25? fuse f1 by side of the connector
You can jump that fuse with 1 Ohm 1/4 Watt resistor for testingLeave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
That black fuse is blown! That is what I thought, That is why you get about 0V Error voltage to go back to the maoin board to tell the cpu that the inverter board is not working, the power supply board is just a junction points for routing all the signals, ERROR is generated by the master inverter board.
You can jump that fuse with 1 Ohm 1/4 Watt resistor for testing.
I found out what screen you have but you should check anyway, AO OPTRONICS T420HW01 V.2.
Connector on the MASTER board:
PIN11, ERROR OUT SIGNAL PIN, LOW (<1V) = BAD, HIGH (>3V) = GOOD.
PIN 12, BL_ON (BACKLIGHTS ON/OFF CONTROL PIN) 3.3V = ON.
So check the black fuse, if that fuse is open, the PWM IC will not have the voltage for it to run, so the ERROR signal from this IC will be 0V = BAD.
See spec sheet of the LCD PANEL AND TEST POINTS.Last edited by budm; 09-17-2012, 12:06 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: LG 42" LCD TV 42LG20-UM No video ONLY sound BAD inverter board or bad power boa
Here is the result
F2 (white fuse) both has .8 ohm
only left one has black fuse F1= 130K Ohm and changing continuously up.
I think this one connected to Capacitor and that is why resistance continuously going up. No fixed resistance for F2 black fuse.
So if the ERR reading is for power board or control board. I guess power board since the pin is on it?
I am getting 3.8mV DC with all the inverter board disconnected . ERR=3.8mV
Yes you are absolutely right. I didn;t know which one was master and which one slave . Now I know.Last edited by arman960; 09-16-2012, 11:51 PM.Leave a comment:

by m1ch43lzmHi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -
by lostoneHello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.
First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...-

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by howardc64All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
- TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
- Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

by slimmy182Hello, I bought this Mac from a friend, he said that it simply stop working. The MacBook looks very clean but does not power on, stuck on 5v 0.42A, and sometimes display 5V and 0A (then 0.071A and again 0A).
I opened it looking for some problem, it was not touched before for sure and the board is very clena, no spot of corrosion at all from what I can see. Voltage on multimeter of the board off the case it's the same, 5V 0.42A. But then I noticed this "clicking sound" come from the board ( I attached here the audio file).
Looking on google I found this:... - Loading...
