It looks like you will have to look at the lamp assembly, it is going to tough to remove the LCD panel off the frame because some time the rubber cushion gets sticky and it get stuck to the LCD panel.

No i didnt, sorry. now i plugged in and got a burning smell and only right side comes on. smoke came from the left board that the bulbs plug into and the plastic behind the board caught fire. i removed the top lamp, the 3rd from the bottom is out but not dark like the 6th from the bottom. The right side will stay on alot longer(approx. 5 minutes) now but after a while they will shut off.

Notice the discoloration(yellowish) of the trim piece that covers the board that burnt up, that would be the slave inverter side. Must of had a heat issue on that side. The bulb i took out is next to it, Tryed putting in a bulb from a vizio of the same size but it was noticably dimmer.

So the lamps are socketed in place? Are there any blue high voltage ballast caps on the board? Was the LCD panel easy to lift off, I afraid my arms are not long enough the really hold up the LCD panel up without having it sag down and crack it.

Re: Polaroid tlx 04244b sound but no picture

The lamps are pushed into place but the plastic clips the hold the center of the lamps are brittle plastic that breaks very easily and yes there are 18 blue ballast caps on the board and the lcd wasnt hard to get off.
I dont know yet if its worth replacing the lamps and the ballast board, Cant seem to find the bulbs anywhere so far.Discount-merchant has the board for 24.95

Re: Polaroid tlx 04244b sound but no picture

I think I would check all the ballast caps to see if any one of them has resistance leakage, i ran into this setup like this before, some of the cap show 100K Ohms using meter and that enough leakage (the meter only put out 5v at he most, just think what happen to the cap when it is exposed to over 2000VAC) to cause other lamps to be dim since the one with leaky cap will draw most of the current, then it shutdown. You can see the body of cap with light brown color. I also had to make sure the board is really clean without contamination, otherwise the high voltage will leak through.
I replaced all the ballast cap on this TV. The plastic rail also turned brown from the heat of the leaky caps.

I have a feeling you have bad ballast caps.

Hi, I have the same Polaroid TLX 04244B that also produces sound but no picture. Did you ever get that working? I am new to this and not as savvy technically as you appear, but did take it apart and didn't notice any bulged caps or other obvious problems. Would love to get it working and keep it out of the landfill...
Thanks to anyone for your help.
