    Magnavox 37MF231D/37

A few weeks ago I was at yard sale and they were selling a broken 37" flat panel TV (Magnavox 37MF231D/37). The screen was fine (no cracks), so I suspect the problem is power board related. I talked them down to $10 which seemed like a good price to me.

The back comes off pretty easy, just a bunch of screws around the edge. Once open, a few more screws and you can release the cage holding the power and video boards.

After removing the power board I see one obvious problem. Cap C2074 (2200uf/25V) is bulging. The power board only has 7 caps (not counting the big fat one), and they are all CapXon board. so I just ordered replacements for all of them. Before ordering replacements, I also checked the video board. To my surprise, it only had 2 electrolytic caps - both of which tested fine. And lastly I checked the two inverter boards. They each has 3 caps, they tested fine plus they were good quality Rubycon. So in the end I only recapped the power board.

After soldering in the replacements the TV powers up and works perfectly. So $10 for the TV, and less than $5 in caps. Not bad for a good looking 37" flat panel TV. I wish all TVs and monitors were as easy as this one to work on.

Yep, people throw away TV that can be fixed by DIY. The shop could have charged about $80 and will still making profit.
    Good job.

I wish I could get a cheap bad cap TV. Out of the dozen of tv's I've worked on, not one of them has had bad caps as e problem

I also found a 32" in a trash pile by street and it had one bad cap on the 5 volt power supply which I had the cap for it ran for a year like that unit it started having some problem again so I recap all the caps in it this year and works real good again

I'm off topic, sorry about it.
Could you please give me the panel part number?
            Thank you in advance.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
              • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
              • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

LG OLED77G1PUA - No Video / Audio after a TCON Board change and Software Update
              by Hakuu
              Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.
