Hi, I have a 50" Samsung Plasma TV and, as a lot of samsung plasma owners, my Y-buffer has burned. It is the upper buffer and I know this because I physically see a burned IC in the buffer board. I took the bad buffer out and plugged the TV back in to see if anything happened (I saw a video where a guy said that I could tell if the lower was bad also???) I got a few white flashing lines in the lower portion of the screen and then I felt the IC's they were heated to roughly 90 degrees within seconds so I immediately unplugged the TV.
I am not a technician but I have been repairing computers for 7 years so I felt like I could tackle this task. Pardon my ignorance, I am attempting to learn as much as possible. So to my questions...
- Is the sustain board going to need to be replaced also?
- Is there a way to tell if the board is bad?
- Should I replace both buffer boards?
- I'm seeing that if I have to replace all three this would roughly cost me $250-300. Does this price sound correct?
- Should I scrap the TV and buy a brand new LCD of better quality for $750?
Thanks in advance,
dcreb
