Vestel psu/inverter. New to the site, needing help from the experts.

Hi guys, just joined as i have been looking around for a fix to a tv i have just bought.

Have always liked electrics and now want to learn about them so i thought i would buy a broken tv and see what i can do.

I bought an alba 19inch (Vestel from what i have read on this site).

It goes into standby (Blue light on) but then when i press the power button the blue light goes off, then 3 seconds later the backlight comes on for less than one second and goes off. And thats it? I have read about and its likely to be the caps but i can't find any bad ones?

The power board is a 17ips15-4.

I have tried this board in another alba (16inch one) and it does the same thing. Although the 16inch one works fine.

I have swapped all the caps from the 16 inch to the 19 inch and it still does the same yet the 16 inch tv works fine as before?

Is there any chance you guys can help me out, I plan to be hanging around here for a long time .

Really sorry about the pics, poor quality phone.

Bad cap can look normal, since you have already found out that it is the board, you may want to try taking the resistance reading of the inverter transformer and may be compare it to the 16" version. We cannot really see the transformer too well in the picture since it is under the heat sink.

First lesson. I think I see Capxon caps. If I'm correct, they make the worst or second worst caps in the industry.

Second lesson. Since we are doing remote troubleshooting, the clarity and composition of pictures matter. This is how we prefer composition.

Re: Vestel psu/inverter. New to the site, needing help from the experts.

I cannot test the inverters against one another because the 16 inch one has a smaller transformer (4 legs) and only 2 backlight wires (2 pink) And the 19 inch one has 4 backlight wires (2 pink & 2 blue)?

I also have another alba/vestel, a 22 inch one that works fine, has the built in dvd player, would that power supply be the same as it might have the same transformer to test against?

Thank you both for the replies so far.

Retiredcaps, i will dig my camera out late on today and see if i can get a few decent pictures for you to mull over.

Just to let you know, both psu are the same model number (17ips15-4) on the 16 and 19inch but have different inverter transformers and different amount of backlight sockets?

Re: Vestel psu/inverter. New to the site, needing help from the experts.

          Right guys, strange thing.

The psu i thought was faulty works fine in the 22 inch? And the 22 inch psu fails to start the 19 inch tv up.

So i put the main board out of the 19 inch into the 16 inch and the main board started smoking lol.

And the 16 board in the 19 and it failed to start, even though i know the board is fine, all i get as usual is a quick blink of the backlight then off.

So it must of been the mainboard the whole time, or possible faulty cathode lights that broke the original board?

I put all the parts back in the 16 and 22 and they both still work fine.

So its game over, i have another 2 tvs coming this evening and hope i can rely on your help if need be.

          Thank you.

Ps. Sorry for all the 16 19 22 16 22 19s, just easier for me.

Have you given up on this then?
The symptoms you describe sound like 2 seconds to black there is a guide here, written by retiredcaps: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10419 start at post19

There were more fairly easy tests you could do to rule out the inverter transformer or the light/wiring.

Yh, i have given up on that tv now after seeing smoke come from the main board , should of been getting another 2 today but the lady is bringing them tomorrow instead.

Hopefully i will have more luck with them ones, Thanks Selldoor.

I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...

Vestel tv, how to flip the image?
                by France_53
Hello everyone from Italy, I'm here to ask for help on a Vestel TV, I've had a Vestel TV branded "XD" with a broken screen for years, but now I've found a Telefunken (still Vestel but older) and I've mounted the panel on the "XD" TV, it works, but the screen is upside down, given that Vestel does not allow you to rotate the image from the service menu, does anyone know how to solve the problem? the original panel is marked ves315WNDS-2D-N12 while the main board 17mb110, the panel I mounted instead in the tv (from the telefunken) is a ves315WNDA-02. ... It is not worth repairing...

I have a tripp-lite aspint 3636vr inverter charger which blow some of mosfet transistors. I replaced them repaired also the driver circuit and tested but the mosfets burn again.

It work very well as inverter and also as charger if I let the rear switch in auto mode (inverter) and charger only(charging) but in auto when I connect the feed line 220V AC first time it pass ok to line and start charging the batteries but when I remove the feed line it pass to inverter mode and if I do it again the second time when passing from charging to inverter the Main transformer start making a...

For some reason I'm just not going to let this 19" TV defeat me. I guess because I have a schematic to work from I feel like I'm oh so close.

History- while adding a turn-on circuit I let a small screw roll under the power board. Worked through all of that circuitry, probably replacing a MOSFET and PWM controller that were not bad but I was following the service manual. Finally figured out that the power supply is in working order when the inverter section (for the backlights) is disconnected. When the +12 supply to the inverter is disconnected the +12 and +5 will come up...

A modified sine wave inverter + a grid tie inverter?

If I had a solar fed grid tie inverter (GTI), a modified sine wave inverter, and a power outage occurred, what would happen if you disconnected mains, backfed the modified sinewave inverter (MSI) into house power, and hooked up the GTI to the output of the MSI, would it work?

Next thing is trying to charge the batteries using solar power, but that's another issue ...
