Yeah, I just tested the 2.5V output (at the switcher), measures 2mV, so it's looking like that's the fault.

I'll see if I can bodge in the LM317T shortly.

I built a little +2.5V regulator on stripboard using an LM317T, heatsink, a few caps and LEDs to indicate input and output (for debugging.) The board takes 4.5V to 30V in, I'll probably wire it to the 5V2 (switched 5V) line.

I've disabled the switch node of the switcher so it can't short to ground and I've wired it into where it should go. I've tied a ground close to the board to minimise noise or the chance of a ground loop. I need to cut the board to fit and find somewhere to put it if this works.

Another one fixed.

REALLY obscure fault there. Surprised it didn't have an LED fault indicator as it would have been one of the checks ("Talk to Genesis display processor") or something.

Still need to do a burn in test - the LM317 doesn't get very warm so I think this is a permanent solution.

Oh, and this 32WLT66S does the same thing as the 42WLT66 I had - when first plugged in the relay clicks, and 5 seconds later it clicks off again, during this time the 24V comes up, but I guess it's just part of the self-test it does. While it does this both red and green LEDs are lit. You can't get it to do anything for these 5 seconds. Then when you turn it on (and have a picture) it clicks on, and when you turn it off, it clicks off. So, it seems there is no inrush limiting, maybe the PFC inductors are used to limit the inrush.

great job you done on that fix saves buying a expensive ic looks a good picture hope the burn test shows its ok.

you tried to help me fix my lg set just returned the favour. did you manage to sort that grundig out with the faulty t con? you replaced the fet on?

It's still on the back burner - at my dad's house - but he's got the 42" to play with before it's sold (he's never had such a big TV... massive compared to the 28" CRT!)

bet he loves it but he wont want to part with it when you sell it lol.
there does not seem much cheap about to repair again at the moment seems a lot of people are having ago at diy fixes for resale bad for us in one way i suppose as when they cant fix it and have messed it up they will try to sell it on to the likes of us.

I've not had difficulty getting TVs. Just trail eBay for bargains (mismarked items.) Or use local free ad sites. This TV was untouched - I've only seen two TVs before that have been repaired previously (the Atec and an old Hitachi plasma.)

Well my upcoming internship will be funding me so I can afford bigger projects

. But in uni I'll be broke... I'll need the TV repairs as a second income!

Hi Tom, great news that you got it fixed, I still cannot find that IC in the service manual, do you know which section/page it is on? By the way, it sounds like you can use LDO 2.5V reg IC in place of the LM317.

Page 37.

It's some kind of buck converter. I used the LM317 to substitute it. I used that over an LDO because I have about 100 LM317's lying around (old stock cheap.)

Tom can I jog your memory on this? I got one last night stuck in standby (it came on once) it came with a new str transistor for the psu which I fitted as it was there but still the same!

I ordered that ic you had problem with for a tenner, still steep, but how tiny is it? smaller than the samsung eprom, worried now about soldering it lol and if it will fix the problem, previous owner was using a hair drier in the back vents to get it out of standby!
