Re: LCD TV turns off randomly

@richpart. It would appear that your boards are entirely different to silvergoats.

My suggestion would be that you start a new thread for your set and copy over what you have done already. Clearly you can support each other but the list of faulty caps
and the pics of your boards are going to mislead everyone when trying to follow it.

In fact you probably have time to edit the information out of this thread and cut and paste it into a new one.

I just noticed that silvergoat's board is different but I bet the caps are going bad on it too.

Yes but they are likely to be in different places and have different board legend

We need to know what YOUR set does

It is both- I had the TV, I gave it to my brother, it is broken so I got it back- It is also the exact same model TV my friend has, and the exact same model TV that was stolen from his garage. Since I have it back, I will repair it and give it to my friend so he can put it into his garage, and I hope to pick up his TV (same model) and repair it later. That's not confusing at all :P

It will get too complicated if you start trying to troubleshoot/fix two /three sets
at the same time in the same thread. (For us- if not you)

I don't have a digital camera, but I'll see if I can borrow one to snap better pictures.

Do you have instructions? if not can you download them or state the make/model number - a picture of it would help. When you have fathomed it - practice on baterries power supplies fuses- anything electrical even mains (WITH CARE) practice holding the probes and watching the screen.

          It's a GE2524

The Power Board is the one with the BIG caps on
The Main or Video board will have the Tuner on it - a large silver metal can where the aerial /cable plugs in.

Third board ???? (Pictures are everything you see)

There are 3 boards in the first pic- Power board is on the right (upside down), Main board is at the top, 3rd board is on the bottom

Could be a separate inverter board, could be a power supply filter board,
could be a Tcon board? - We will know when we see it

In your next post state in capitals the make and model number of the set
and chassis number if you can find it.
Philips site gives me this model number 32PF5321D/37 Will have to verify tomorrow

            "It's a GE2524"

I cant find a manual but here is a pic - looks simple enough to use. make sure it has a good battery put the leads in as shown in pic red in middle hole
black at bottom (com) I have marked which segments should be used
            to measure what.

Okay, I just looked at the back of the TV, and the model number I posted is correct. I was not able to borrow a digital camera so I am left with my camera phone which may work to focus on certain points on the board.

Sorry about the confusion, I have alot of sets to catch up on myself. Keeping up with them is a headache in of itself.

Re: LCD TV turns off randomly

If the board is still off can you do the backs. The big caps are unlikely to be the problem
unless they have become unsoldered ,they are a good make and unlikely to have failed.
First unplug and replug as many connectors as you can find - make sure they are firmly reseated.
Next test is highly scientific and requires high skill level.
With it all connected up switch it on and get a hair dryer. Warm (not too hot) one board at a time and see if you can get it to switch off. If you find a board that does that you next have to try and narrow it down to a section of the board so let it cool then start
again. Report results. I have had a busy day so off to bed already- next tests will involve
measuring voltages - so i hope you have been practising.

                      Thanks-

I will put it together tomorrow and begin stressing the board to see if I can duplicate the problem. I've already desoldered and resoldered many items on the board so it should be a good test.

Re: LCD TV turns off randomly

I've turned it on a few times and aside from the wait to get the screen powered up, it didn't budge under the heat gun on low, even with ambient temp of almost 90.

Re: LCD TV turns off randomly

Went back to it today because I only went over the power board yesterday with the heat gun. Today I hit the top board and the main board (board with all the TV in/out). I noticed that if I heated the main board, the backlight would not turn on for a few seconds which is not normal since the TV backlight always comes on first.

When turned on from cold does the screen look at all pink.
Does it still turn off as much with the back off - ie when cooler.

Your pictures are not really sharp enough for troubleshooting.

It will be useful if you can say what the supposed fault was and a bit about yourself - skills tools etc.

Have you got a multimeter and soldering equipment and can you use them.
If you make the point that you are totally new to electronic repairs, as I think you have indicated, members will take this on board and advise every step of the way and when you are working on high voltages will usually remind extra care.
Please update your profile with where you live and mains voltage.
If you have a shutdown preceded by screen flicker is that telling of a particular board that may be going bad? I will start a new thread on my issue with a Vizio VF550M as soon as I get access. Just found this forum and it's great!

Hey guys - new to this too. I'll likely be posting soon about an LCD TV issue tomorrow or Saturday hoping to get some help with a similar power issue. Gonna post with lots of pictures, it's gonna be a fun one. Thanks in advance
