    Insignia 47 LCD (NS-LCD47HD-09)

    Problem:
After watching TV for a random amount of minutes the picture fades out rapidly and I have to turn the TV off/on to see picture again. FADE/POWER/REPEAT.

    Tests:
    Backlight IS still on.
No picture exists with flashlight check.
Sound works fine whilst picture is absent.
Purchased MB ... still fades out.
Purchased PSU Board .. still fades out.
When picture fades, menus (nor anything) are visible.
After PWR 1/0, TV works immediately until Fade/PWR/RPT.

    Hypothesis:
    T-Con
Backlight Inverter (But just cant see how this is the issue)
Need new cables between MB and TCON/Inverters

Can anyone confirm a solution before I purchase ANOTHER friggin' part!?!?!

The tcon is about all thats left. Have you tried to remove the back of the tv and place a fan blowing on the boards to see if it works longer?

I have not ... I can try that - should that fail ... get the T-CON?

        Re: Insignia 47 LCD (NS-LCD47HD-09)

If it works, meaning the picture stays on indefinitely, then the next step would to somehow get air to hit the tcon board only. That would indicate that something on that board is overheating and causing it to shut down.

            BURN MARKS!

Running TV now with shell off / back of TV shell off / Fan pointed at TCON.

Started at 10:30 will see how long it lasts.

                Used T-CON is about $70.

Taking off the shell seemed to do the trick ... Has been running for two hours now. Thanks Mr. Bill and Budm for the assist. I will let it run overnight but so far this has been running longer than I have ever had it. Go figure ... After $220 in parts ... the fix was free!!!!

The metal plate is used to heatsink the main processor. What is likely happening is some component under the heatsink doesn't like it. Without a heatsink the processor will probably overheat and fail.

I have several "well used" T-con boards (working ones) and they all show discolouring around the shield, it's not unusual.

Thanks all ... I will get a new TCON but for now the removal of the outer plate is keeping it cool enough to function as designed.

You could try using a heatsink from an old motherboard to do the job.
