Can't remember where I saw that to post a link or if it's true but just thought I'd put my 2 cents in if it helps in any way.

Thank you sir, for your contribution.

The problem at hand is how do I flash the firmware? I can't get the TV to start at all, unless in 'stand by' with no picture. If you have a solution, I would be forever in your debt.

    Thanks.

If I can find the site again that I saw that info on I'll definitely let you know.

Sir, if you could, you would win the big prize!!!!

I've searched all over the net and couldn't find it! I've tried the following:

        Reset A:
        1) Unplugging the TV
        2) Holding the power button down
        3) Plug the TV back in while still holding the power button
        4) Continue to hold the power button until the TV resets itself and boots

This worked once, and the TV turned on, but then the next time I went to watch it, I got the error signals again, and it failed to start. Trying this reboot the second time failed.

Reset B - (more of just a boot option):
TV is reset while booted by depressing the Volume Up button and Channel Down button while plugging in the TV. This is supposed to boot the TV into the service menu. At this point, the Power LED on the front panel is solid, and I can hear the main board cycling (the chip under the heat sink seems to be hissing with electricity). There is no picture or sound.

Dont think I can stand much more of this - I knew it was going to be a mess when you started a new thread. I am not sure anyone now knows exactly which boards you have in the set or where you have placed the jumpers. I did ask if you had bought exactly the same boards and I said you would have to post pictures of them which I believe you did not.
Had you done so we would have probably spotted the jumper problem.

The firmware can be uploaded from the Sharp Website
          http://www.sharpusa.com/CustomerSupp...del=LC-46D64U&

And the instructions for installing it using a usb stick are in the service manual - you have read that havent you? - Page 27.

The problem you have is knowing which version of the firmware to load- I cant help with that -perhaps a phone call to sharp telling them details of the board you want to flash and ask if you can just try both.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Sir, I have indeed verified that I had replaced the boards with the correct versions (see post #11 & also #13). I did also set the jumpers to the correct model of TV that I am trying to fix, and noted so in an earlier post (see post #71).

As for the firmware, yes, I have read about it, not only in the service manual, but in various forums around the internet. I can't update any firmware until I can get the TV to boot up correctly, which is why I started posting on this forum in the first place.

I abandoned the first post because the pictures I had posted were of horrible quality, I didn't know how to use a meter yet, and I had let the post sit inactive for a while while I waited for a new board to come in.

In this second post, I have been diligent in checking it several times daily, following any instructions I have been given, and responding back with my results, and no one here has been able to guide me to a solution.

We know the main board and power supply are good, so what could still be the problem? Could it be that there is another board that is bad, or that the TV is stuck in having an error, preventing it from booting, even though the new board has been replaced? I can't get it to boot up and see the screen to update the firmware - at this point it is a brick.

as per your quote At this point, the Power LED on the front panel is solid, and I can hear the main board cycling (the chip under the heat sink seems to be hissing with electricity). i have never heard this on a mainboard before so maybe yes the new board could be faulty ie the chip under the heat sink.

Anyway to test that with a meter?

My last post on this thread.
There is no picture of your current main board?
                    Have you downloaded the firmware?
Is it on a usb stick?
Have you tried loading it as per page 27 Chapter 3 in the manual.?

2.2.3 How to upgrade the software
                    1. Unplug the AC cord.
                    2. Insert the USB Memory for version upgrade (prepared as above) into the service socket located Right side from center at terminals, above HDMI4
terminal in the rear of the unit.
                    3. Plug in the AC cord with power button pressed down after 5 seconds, unpress the power button.
                    4. After the unit startup, the system upgrade screen as shown below appears within 20-40 seconds.

well worth trying this imo if you have not already.

selldoor, thanks for your participation in this thread. We'll continue without you - or I will, at least.

As far as the firmware update, I can't do this because the board that reads the USB thumbnail drive never gets power.

                        Reference Photo: Tuner and Connections

                        A) I have a USB Cruzer mini disk (Formatted to FAT only) with a power indicator LED. The LED doesn't light up an any point during the process, or when turning the TV on, or trying to boot into the service menu. It is connected to (D) in the attached image.

                        B) I took some meter readings from the Tuner board which powers the board that the USB connection is soldered to (I think). The Tuner board does get the correct voltage from the Power Supply (15v) at connection (A), but it doesn't output any from power from connection (B), which should power the speakers, or connection (C), which runs to the side panel, I think (see attachment - connection (B)).

When I remove all connections from the side panel, and test the terminal boar's (C) connection, I do get a few pins that try to send out 3-5 volts.

There is also a connection from the side panel to the motherboard (side panel - connection (A)), that doesn't get any power sent to it from the main board at all, when the side panel is connected, and fully disconnected.

                        Any thoughts?

Ok, I have to admit, in my haste to order new parts, I don't think I took the time to match things 100% - does this matter, I am not sure. Either way, I just double checked everything I had ordered previously, and apologize for not having accurate information earlier.

this was the main board that was in my tv (which isn't in stock):
                          Sharp DUNTKE558FM01S Main Board

And the board that I actually bought:
                          Sharp DUNTKE558FM06S Main Board

So, the model numbers are off by a bit, but they are essentially the same board, no? On shopjimmy.com, they are listed as "known boards" for the model of TV in question.

Well even before you said that you got the model numbers slightly off, i was going to sugest that you check if the other models that use the same board have the same firmware version / file size.

That would be a good way to eliminate the possibility that you have firmware issues.

So if you know the 37 and 42" both use that board, and both have the same firmware file (specifically a big giveaway if the file names are the same or say 37-42 or something in them) then its probably not a firmware / board matching issue.

I wouldnt be surprised if the difference between the boards was how the interface with the tuner board (the model that uses the other board might have more or less connections on the tuner board) So maybe just usign the properly matched tuner board + mainboard would start your unit , but right now you have a mismatched pair. (as in you could use either model number board so long as they are paired with the right tuner)
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

The board that I currently have (the newer one, that doesn't exactly match the original), is only stated to be used in my model tv, LC-46D64U

Where as the original one was stated to work in the following:

                              SHARP LC-52SB57UN
                              SHARP LC-42D64U
                              SHARP LC-46D64U
                              SHARP LC-46D65U
                              SHARP LC-52D64U
                              SHARP LC-65D64U
                              SHARP LC-C4254U
                              SHARP LC-C6554U

So, you're suggesting that if I look up the firmware for these other units, and they seem to match the one suggested for my TV, then the new/old main boards should be interchangeable?

                              As for the tuner board,
                              Sharp DUNTKE208FM01H Terminal Board

It is the only one that is shown on shopjimmy.com, and seems to share the same usage in other models as the correct main board for my computer.

So, it would seem that the one offered on their site wouldn't pair well with different version main board that I have now.

Grrr...hmmm. I will call them tomorrow and see what I can work out.

Re: Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U stand by with new boards!

I know that it seems we're beating a dead horse here, but I'm thickheaded, and also desperate. I just lost my job, and I don't want to drop another 1k on a new TV - I need a new PC before that - so fixing it is a high priority.

Ok, well, here is an update on this.

I bought a matching main board (with the jumpers in the correct placement) and turner board from a working TV that had a broken screen (or so the e-bay seller says so). I also replaced the side panel board where the USB Thumbnail drive is imputed for firmware updates - it was cheap and I got free shipping on it.

When I hold the power button down, with the formatted USB Drive in the USB slot, and plugin the TV, expecting it to perform a firmware update, it turns on, but the flash drive's LED never lights up. There is a red LED right on the main board (see attachment), that lights up red and blinks. After 40 seconds or so, the TV seems to reboot itself, and go through the process again. It does this 3 or 4 times until it gives up and flashes a new error code at me:

Power and OPC light blink once, and then the power button blinks again another two times. The sequence takes about a second to complete.

A quote off of Fixya states that this is a bad main board, but I don't believe that to be the case. This is the first board that I've had that A) Matches all the numbers of the original, and B) has a working LED.

How many times per second does the POWER led blink? (dont worry about the OPC).

1x per second (constant, steady blink) = bad inverter/lamps
2x per second = bad power supply
3x per second = bad main board
So... any ideas how to get the main board to recognize the side panel and USB for a firmware update? Or do you think SOMETHING ELSE IS FAILING? GRRR!

I've already tried selldoor's reboot instructions from the manual, but it's a no go (just does what I stated above)!

It is not the side panel that is the problem, i guarantee you that if youve tried 2 now.

Its not the mainboard either probably (youve tried 2 now)

The flashing light codes are the light on the front of the TV not the light on the mainboard. (you probably know this but just making sure)

With 1 mainboard you get 0 flashing lights on the board? and with the new mainboard you do get a flashing light on the board? What about with your original mainboard?

And just to clarify cause its been so long and ive forgot, Does the backlight ever light up, and have you tried using a flashlight to see if there is a picture just no light on the screen (best place to check is the top right corner where the channel number would usually appear right after turning on the tv.

I would get it into the state B where it has power light steady , then shine a flashlight and see if you see anything. Im pretty sure at this point your just not getting backlight.

Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

It does seem to get some power (3v) transferred to it from the tuner board when I check with a meter, but the Power Indicator LED on the USB Thumb Drive that I use, doesn't light up.

There is a small LED on the mainboard itself that blinks. I meant to attach an image of it, but forgot; I have since done so.

The error codes are displayed on the front panel of the TV (Green lights - Power and OPC)

I just tried this in state A & B and no, there is no picture seen anywhere on the TV when I start it up and shine the flashlight into it. In state A, the TV boots with the Power LED solid, but then resets itself several times until it gives up and throws the newer error code. In state B, the service menu (from what I've been told), the power light stays steady indefinitely, and still no picture when I shine a flashlight into it.

I've measured voltage coming off the power board during both of these states (since replacing the old boards), and all visible connections off of the power supply board, with the exception of the T-Con, get power.

I have tried to measure the connections from the inverter boards that connect to the main board, but I see no voltage - I am not sure I am supposed to. The same can be said for the T-Con.

                                      Any thoughts?

Is there a line called PSON or ON/OFF on the main board going to PSU? (May be labelled on PSU only.)

yep, the PS_ON lead tests 2-3 volts through it constantly (while the TV is trying to reboot itself and such).
