By any chance do you still have the cable that goes from the logic board to the T-CON board? I tripped over the cord that plugs the TV into the outlet and did a bit of damage.

The connector on the T-CON board lifted a bit off the board. I tried soldering it back down. I didn't get it perfect but it's holding it down a little. Just at a slight angle.

I'm getting absolutely nothing on that VIN_12V on the T-CON board now and on the cable on the T-CON side, a wire isn't staying in the connector because I broke the little thing that prevents the wire from coming out off.

Just more bad luck I guess. I don't know if I jacked up some of the T-CON board pins when I tripped over it and that's why there's no voltage at all on the test point or if it's because of the wire on the cable. I doubt it's the wire though because it's the second to the last on the opposite side of the VIN_12V test point.

I do have the lvds cable, but i would try fixing your connections first, cause i doubt the cable is the issue. But you might be able to use electrical tape to get the connector to stay in. and then use a low ohm setting to make sure the pins on eahc side are connected (perferably test from the traces before the connectors so you know you resoldered all the pins fine in the connector.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe the connector is fine now. I mean there's two wires that aren't securely in but I was thinking of maybe just gluing them down or something. I'm also thinking because of Q6360 being shorted by me on pins 4 and 5, maybe that's why I'm not getting any voltages on VIN_12V. I'm home now and I'm going to try the 1-2 watt resistor idea. Wish me luck!

Pin 3 is the contol pin that turns the MOSFET on/off. 8VDC should be there when the TV is ON, and about 0V when TV is OFF.
Hmm, I haven't soldered the resistor yet but because pin 3 is now reading some wheres around 0vdc when the TV is on, does that mean I messed something up and this won't work? All I did was touch pin 4 and 5 at the same time. From what you've said, I don't see how that could of done anything. Pin 3 was reading around 8vdc. After I touched 4 and 5, it sparked a little. Then I went to pin 3 and it was reading 6vdc and just kept going down.

I'll still solder the resistor I guess and hope for the best. Also though, because something is physically wrong with the MOSFET, would those various pins still be tied together? Or is there a chance some of the traces inside the chip burned to the point where they're no longer tied?

Something went TERRIBLE!!! wrong. I successfully soldered pins 4 and 6 together on Q6360. When I plugged it in and turned the TV on, I smelled something. I looked down and the chip was smoking. Lots of smoke coming from it and everything. It appeared to be coming from that chip but it's hard to say for certain because I unplugged it before I took a closer look. Any ideas on what went wrong?

I would remove that IC, I cannot see why it will smoke since none of the pins are connected to ground, for it to smoke, a lot of current has to complete the circuits back to ground, please remove the IC, remove the damaged LVDS cable, clean the board and inspect the board real close to see if any one of the pin is connected to the ground plain. That MOSFET is nothing but a electronic switch, current goes into pin 4 and flow out to pin 1,2, 5, and 6 and out to the T-CON board. Please recheck your solder works. put the jumper back on pin 4 and 6 and you should read 12v on those pins.

Yeah its surprising that it didnt work. Perhaps you have a lot of solder on 4 and 6 and so it flowed to the ground, or maybe yoru testing the board whil ites not screwed down in its proper place so something on the board touched ground.

Also, you probably know this, but pins are numbered counter clockwise from the notch / dot. so the nearest pin to the notch / dot is 1.

I have a feeling he shorted the trace to ground plain some how, that is the only explanation.

I know my solder isn't touching the ground plane at all. I will remove the IC and resolder my resistor to pin 4 and 6. The board is not screwed down, however, it's on a cardboard box and nothing is grounding out.

Before the resistor was put in place, I tested it after repairing the cable the best I could and there was no smoke. I believe the cable is working fine. I will go over what you guys suggested though.

I was thinking. Could this be why the chip was all burned out? Maybe it wasn't something I did but perhaps something that failed in the circuit and caused this to burn out? Maybe a diode or something? Just a thought. Remember, when I accidently touched pins 4 and 5, it sparked and then pin 3 lost all it's voltage.

I will double check, but the amount of solder I used is very minimal and I always go over my work with a magnifying glass.

The pin numbers for the IC are labeled on the board. So I'm certain I have the correct order. I'm always worried about having the wrong pins so I'm extra careful about that. I think it's from me killing so many transistors when I was younger trying to test them.

Yeah its possible you didnt make any of those simple error, cause it sounds like you were making sure not to do anything stupid.

Good luck with removing and bypassing it.

I hope I didn't. I didn't have time to remove it last night and today we have to go to my girl's mum's house for dinner. When I get back, I'll give it a shot. I found out what was smoking. It was the resistor. The 1 ohm 1/4watt resistor I used is all burnt and crispy.

It's still a very real possibility that I did something earlier on to cause this. Before I soldered the resistor on. It wouldn't be the first time I made a simple stupid error. Won't be the last either!

Anyway, I gotta take off now. Just wanted to give every ones the heads up.

I removed the IC. I had only soldered where that chip was, however, I went over everything with a fine tooth comb. Nothing looks out of the ordinary. I have successfully soldered a resistor to pin 1 and pin 4 at where the IC used to be. I am going to try again. All I can think is you must of been right and some how when I soldered my resistor last time, it reached ground. I looked it over so well though.

Well, this thing is a lost. The board caught fire. Hrrrmmmm. At least the resistor didn't burn up this time.

I'm such a stupid idiot. I can't believe I left that damn LVDS cable in. I was so excited, got it all hooked up and everything. When I finished soldering, I just hooked all the cables up like I normally do. I didn't even think about it. This is going to cost me a ton to fix now. I'm going to try to get that logic board off Cashkennedy and replace the T-CON board and T-CON cable as well. It had to be something with that LVDS cable or the connector. Just more bad luck I guess.

Don't give me a good price because of my luck or anything. Charge me what you think is fair. That is, if you're still willing to sell it.
