    1) Nope. Use the diode check function to check diodes.

    2) Post a picture of your multimeter.

Dont have it yet. Slow day at work and trying to be prepared. I know how much i question every little thing , and worry if i do it right I'm sure im overcomplicating it. Sorry for that in advance.. lol. Once i catch on to the basics it all gets very simple.

No worries. With power off and the TV unplugged, there is very little you can do to damage the TV, multimeter or yourself.

Both the resistance and diode checks are done with the power off and TV unplugged.

It is when the power is ON, that you have to be careful because one slip of the probe can cause a short.

edit: See posts #19 and 20

In the guide, I have sections on multimeter, fuses, and diodes.

Thanks, that is 100x better than the video imo because it covers many different things. Was mainly worried that i wouldn't get the correct readings or short something. Be back later.

Plug your red probe into the red circled spot. Black probe into COM. The black probe will always stay in COM.

              1) For the diode test, set the meter to the diode test function (blue).

              2) For the resistance test (fuse), set the meter to the 200 (two hundred) scale (yellow).

                Ok, first results..

                ZD904 .02 and .02

                ZD902 .05 and .05

                D925 .07 and .07

                D912 .000 and .000

I should desolder one side from each to retest now? I've repeatedly been getting the same results. There are other D and ZD diodes that the results came back fine.

Edit: checking fuses right now, so far so good

If you switched the leads around, then yes all those readings suggest the diodes are all bad. You will have to desolder and retest out of circuit.

It is possible that something else on the board is shorted and causing all these potentially false positives.

I'll remove them shortly then, I cannot find any other fuses on the inverter boards than the one on the power board..

Fuses begin with the letter "F". For example, F100.

Your 4 fuses circled in red.

Thanks, never seen a fuse other than the glass looking ones.

All 4 read at .3, so they seem fine.

So far we're down to either

                        1) Diodes are bad and need replaced, casualties from when the Caps went bad?

                        2) Another (larger?) part of the power board is causing a false positive.

I'm leaning towards number one, like Mr. Bills situation, but I know to expect the unexpected.. I'll start off by removing one leg of each diode and checking for false positives. If they are, what do you recommend for being my first plan of action?

Remove them and test them out of circuit. Report your multimeter results for each one.

After removing it, D925 now gives me .463 and no reading the other way. So it looks good after all

Add fresh 60/40 solder to the joint first to help with thermal transfer.

D925 is good. What about D912?

BTW, there is no such thing as "no reading". If it reads "1" on the left hand side, that means "out of range" or "infinity".

Remember a diode lets current one way and blocks the other way.

Hmm, we get this on a daily basis now. Time to write another guide. See

Okay, time to order parts. Remember tom66's suggestion and you might want to get 4 just in case they blow for some other reason. I'm guessing these diodes should be under $1 each?
