    Vizio SV420XVT1A Delta DPS284BPA only 5V

Trying to revive a dead Vizio 42inch LCD TV.

Looking at the PS revealed no swollen caps.
    Here is what is happening.

Set has been worked on, had the D907 removed.
I replaced it, maybe not right ?? with a double diode from some IBM AT supply.

First power up, the 5V jumpos up and down only to 3 v then to 0.
So I looked on mainboard, and yanked the cable going from the right side input block and now 5V came back at a steady 5.21V.

However no other power, punching on button no soap. No 12V or 24V come up.
Tried jumping the PS_ON to 5V and this only turns on the relay which appears to kill the AC to the 165V bridge rectifier. 5V remains on however.
There are A and B lines, measure 0V. Do these need 5V or some other voltage or some signal coming from the mainboard to cause the supply to turn on other voltages? With the PS out of the set and powered on, it only still has the 5V running.

Now I plugged back the right side input block connector plug it in and now it still has 5V coming out but nothing else.
I am noticing the main processor gets very hot after 10 minutes or so.
So suspecting bad mainboard? However without all power from PS how can one know if the lack of 12V is cause of problems.

All fuses on mainboard check ok, and I can spot 3.3V 2.5V etc from the mainboard regulators ok.

Obvoiusly unable to go any further.

Nobody except maybe one person on Ebay has a replacement P/S for this.
I would just love to know what I should be seeing coming from the mainboard, and/or if the PS should be supplying all normal voltages.

I can see a 14 pin and an 16 pin IC on the foil side of the board, but nobody has a manual for the PS so I have no idea what these chips are and what voltages they should have.
I carefully measured them with the PS out of the TV, and get no voltages on them at all. I am getting the 165V from the Primary to the 2 transistors that drive the larger switching supply. I can tell it is what is not running, and it handles both the 12 and 24 volt supplies.

My thought is that this IC601 has failed, as I cannot even see the number on the chip, as if it overheated and burned them off.

I would just recap the supply if it would at least come on long enough to test out the rest of the set.

I can see it is a nice set, offering a host of stuff and 120HZ picture etc.
It's missing the back cover and stand but I figire on building a cardboard cover painted black and make a stand out of plywood if needed, or just buy a wall mount. But have to see if it works first.

Ok so any help is appreciated, or if you have any advice on how to test the supply. People seem to indicate that getting any type of service manual is close to impossible. I certainly see no hope for that.
Elektrotanya is what someone advised, I haven't just checked it yet but I will.

    A wild service manual appears!

Let us know what fixes the problem.

HI KB 48 I was searching for a solution to a problem with a vizio sv 420VXT1A that i have been working on when i ran in to your post , I also didn't know what i was dealing with but may be i can answer a few of your questions.
this has a dc- dc converter power supply when you first plug the set in you should have 5v on the p.s pins 10,11,&12 they are clearly marked (cn5). pin 1 is to turn on the power supply pson if you hit the power button that pin should go high somewhere around 3-4v if it does not it may be main board or as it was in my case the lcd panel itself holding the p.s down . you can jump the 5v to pson to see if your 12v,24v voltages come on this way you can eliminate the p.s i e : jump pin 10 to pin 1 on cn5 (i use a common diode) and if your voltages come up then p.s is good.

        Re: Vizio SV420XVT1A Delta DPS284BPA only 5V

I have isolated it to IC601 and I got a DPS199 board to make my next attempt to replace the bad IC. It has the 5V standby, and jump 5V to PS-ON I get 12.8 frequency and voltage trying to drive the IC601 which appears to be shorted, so it never turns on the 12 or 24V sources.
Oddly at this point I cannot tell if the mainboard is good or bad, until we get decent power from the Power Supply first. The mainboard never produced the 3.3V for the PS_ON pin 1 however without the power supply working, it is hard to say. I can say the processor gets warm, which is still a good sign perhaps.

Soon I will know I just havent had time with all my other more important projects, to see if it will come on once changed. Could still have other PS issues.
This set came out of a repair shop that abandoned it. While missing the back cover it is in perfect shape otherwise, but remains to know if the U33 problem that others speak of or any other issues exist. Once i have the PS working I will know more.
If I get the PS working I may just invest in another PS in case it may fail again. At that point I will then know it was worth the time to fix it.
Originally when I plugged it in, the 5V voltage would jump from 0 to 3.5V up and down. I then discovred unplugged the left side Input Block and it came back to steady 5V. And from then I replugged the block and it stays at 5V, stable etc.
At one point with the PS in the set, I got the red 5.1 logo on the front to come on when I pushed power button. The VIZIO log just stays white at this point.

Anyone who has this TV with this fault may want to look here:

It appears to apply only to the FSP version though.

Can we see good clear pictures of your board? As long as the mian board get the 5V to run the MCU, the main board should put out the PS_ON signal to turn on the 12V/24V power supply to run the audio amplifier (12v), and the inverter board (24v).
A and B pins are for the BL_ON (INVERTER_ON), and DImming control (I do not remember which one is which at this momnent).
