  • Re: L32 HDTV10A Won't turn on fully

There is a chance the U26 has been damaged, but that symptom is slightly different (amber only; no green on power-up). It's a very tiny component on the upper right region of the mainboard that controls the TV power on. Most people probably can't see the melted solder point without a 10x lens.

You can bridge it with a 10k ohm resistor or diode (I chose the resistor), but it would be preferable to repair it and replace the component. Fixing a $700 mainboard with a 20 cent resistor is very rewarding.

Vizio made both a model XVT373SV as well as an SV370XVT. Brilliant labeling scheme on their part. Don't have any resources on an xvt373sv.

There's certainly a service manual somewhere, but it's a pretty new model. You'd need to find a current warranty repair tech.

  • Re: Hot tub circuit board

Thanks for the tip, that will help a lot. I am learning as I go. I bought a 4-pack of the zettler 24v relays because I am working on other 24v projects where they might be useful. They cost about $9 each after shipping from Radwell Int'l. They were shipped very quickly (arrived 24 hrs later) and it was generally a good experience, albeit a higher price than I expected. I guess I'll get a couple 12v, too.

It's a shame digikey or Mouser doesn't have these smaller Zettler relays. I can get the larger T90 relays (ones with yellow coils in the...

  • Hot tub circuit board

    Hey all,

Repairing a hot tub PCB (Balboa 25501 off a Coleman hot tub), thought I'd share the progress. These boards fail frequently, especially the relays along the 240v heater circuit (I've gone through two already), and are $600 ($200 at the cheapest on eBay). It's my first major circuit board soldering project in a couple years, I built some home-made solar panels last year so got some practice with a new iron.

Most of the problem was centered on a relay failure, but the relay smoked before the fuse could blow, causing two large KME caps to get a tad too crispy....

  • Re: Vizio VP322 no picture no sound

I would say it's more probable that there are more bad caps. Judging from the pics and threads available online regarding the power board on this model, all of the original electrolytic caps on this board will eventually fail (little over a dozen).

It would be recommended to replace them with the recommended brands mentioned ad nauseum by the experts on this forum (Panasonic, Rubycon, United Chemicon, Samxon except GF's, Nichicons except HM & HN series, etc.). Throw away the Changs and Elites.

  • Re: Vizio VP322 no picture no sound

According to the service manual, u8 pin2 should be registering +1.2v. U4 pin2 should be +3.3v and pin3 +5.0v. Service manual doesn't mention u7, u9, or u515, nor does it mention proper output on pin1 of U8. But pin2 on u9 and u515(?) looks a bit low if it should normally be registering +3.3v.

Maybe trace back the route and see if there's an older cap on those circuits?

Are those Sacon FZ's around the CPU?

I am working on an HP, too...they throw all sorts of brands on. I found GSC, Ltec, Nichicon HM, all the usual suspects were on there. It's one of their low-end cheap pavilions so it's not unexpected.

  • Re: Vizio VW37L - NO PICTURE, NO SOUND

According to the HDTV10A service manual, pin2 of U7 should be +1.2v when turned on. U33 should also be the exact same reading as U2 and U8 (+3.3v)

I also have a VW37L HDTV_20_A service manual, but it doesn't mention these regulators.

  • Re: recap zumax 400w

Hi all, I recently purchased a Zumax 400w ATX v2.0 off ebay.

Apparently I got what I paid for. I plugged it into an old HP pavilion with a Goldfish3-GL8E motherboard. The CPU fan spun for a tenth of a second, and about 5 seconds later a loud explosion came from the Zumax (not just a soft "pop" but a real "POW!"). No smoke at all. I immediately pulled the plug.

I considered sending it back to the seller but decided instead to open it up and examine/fix it. Surprisingly the fuse is intact. There are no burn marks,...

  • Re: VIZIO VO42L No picture, No Sound

You might also want to consider inspecting and/or replacing those K4075 mosfets at the bottom of the screen.

Maybe you can install a super-tiny heatsink on the IC without shorting it? Something from an old 8086, perhaps?

BTW awesome soldering job, that looked really professional (before the cap blasted it to pieces again). I've been looking for a better soldering station and that sounds like a good one, I'll have to look into it.

One thread mentions bad V9A caps causing problems in his RCA screen:

Another thread mentions that V9A's are part of the Samxon GF series which are constantly mentioned by the experts here as lemons and dangerous, although Samxon in general are a good brand.

  • Re: Vizio VW42LFHDTV10...Brother Mikes TV...

I was a Vizio TV parts swap person for a couple years; mostly performed simple board swaps but the repair vendor gave us the service manuals for all the Vizio TV's at the time.

According to the VW42L_HDTV10A manual from 061107T (6th of Nov 2007?), U8 pin-1 on the dc-dc converter should be +5v, and pin2 should be +3.3V (doesn't say anything about pin3).

However, the manual's flowchart says U5 pin2 should be around +1.2V while power switch is on (p.91)...two other chart discrepancies follow:

    U6 pin2...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi, I'm Dan from NJ. I was a Dell field tech during the tail-end of the GX270 situation, just a parts swapper but it was quite an experience. Dell would only replace individual motherboards for most companies and schools, but legal firms always had every single board replaced all at once. Go figure...

I have done some component replacements, but usually on a monkey-see,monkey-do basis (look up problem online and replace the part they said to replace). I'd really like to learn how to diagnose the problems, especially...

  • Re: Has anyone of you guys seen these?

I replaced some styrene capacitors in an Atari 2600 which was having audio problems (lots of static). Replacing them did the trick and fixed it.

They looked like the bottom-most pic up above, but were radials not axials. Gotta be very careful with them, they don't like the solder heat. Will melt into a pile of goo in a heartbeat.
