    VIZIO M557-G0: Backlights or ???

    'Morning,
I get sound and picture when powering on the TV and its stays that EXCEPT that the left half of the screen will dim every few seconds then return to normal while the right side of the screen performs as designed.

Did the soft and hard reset options pulling the plug, using the reet option in the vizio menu to no avail.

I checked the mainboard - found some popped capacitors so replaced it - but that did not change the situation.

I checked the t-con board. It is getting good power. Then I removed one ribbon cable to see if I could isolate the problem, then the other - no impact - same situation - all backlights were lit but the left half backlights dimmed (remaining lit) then brightened and the process continued.

The power supply board was next. The backlights are powered off this board. Checked the voltage on the connector going to the left half backlights and on two of the pins got voltage readings that read 93+ volts and then 105+ volts, rhythmic pulse voltages while the other pins reported steady voltage readings.

Not sure where to check next. Have not jumped to taking the panels off and actually testing backlight strips - we all know that is tedious and a little tricky.

Should I jump to that or is there something I should be check that I overlooked?

    Thank you for any insights.

Do you have a backlight tester? I would use this first before taking it all apart. What does pulsing voltages mean? How are you measuring the voltage? Negative to chassis? Or negative to negative terminal if LEDs? We have no pictures of PSU which would be helpful and the main board with shorted caps I'm curious with pictures also what was actually replaced

From menu go into picture settings, turn the backlights way down, see if anything changes.

Not exactly sure but maybe checkout E900 and E902 capacitors, one may be weak.

          Thanks for replying
          It's an LED TV.

          - On backlight testing before taking apart...I measure at the pins going from the backlight connectors on the power supply board - right? PS board pic is attached and those connectors are in the upper left.

Negative to chassis positive to pin is what I have been doing. Negative terminal ? I'm just a but confused on location.

The main board did get completely replaced, as did the PS board. New main board also attached.

The pulsing voltage is when I measure at the LED power supply pin connected to the PS board and hold it for a few seconds at get a reading of 93V then 105V 1-2 seconds later and then it repeats.

          Insights still appreciated

Thanks - tried that and several other menu adjustments - no change.
            The capacitors look ok.

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel

              Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

              Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Panasonic Tx-40cx400b top left half screen not displaying correct
              by armoured_smiler
              Hi,

Trying to work out if this is TFT problem or TCon issue.
The TV powers up but the top half of the screen, from the right it is OK, but as you look across to the left halfway across it starts get duller and duller until it is very dark on the lefthand side, currently I trying to clean the remote as it seems to have something film wise on the pads stopping it from registering buttons pressed.

Also when changing the screen size of Windows PC display to say to a smaller pixel sizewindow, the original window displayin the top left stays/takes a few seconds to disappear?...

              Replacing backlights in Vizio V755-J04
              by x_orange90_x
I've had this monster for several months as I've hesitated to order backlights for it. Finally did order them and they are due to arrive tomorrow. Besides having ample space to work, are there any recommendations for working on such a massive screen? Should I remove the panel by myself or would 2 people be a better choice? I bought the double-cup suction cups from Harbor Freight and have been using them for the last few repairs on smaller screens. They are far superior to the single cup orange ones I used previously that would often let go without warning 😱.

              I have not replaced...

              Vizio-D50u-D1 Pulsating Backlights
              by csmith
This Vizio came in the shop with no backlights. Replaced all the strips with replacement from Shop Jimmy. Set now has backlights but lights pulsate on left side. Half the screen brightens up then goes to normal then repeats.
Am I looking at a defective strip? Thanks in advance.

Panasonic Plasma screen interference on left half of screen
              by Zelek11
My Panasonic Plasma model P55VT50 has started displaying "interference" on just the left half of the screen only (left when facing the screen). Sometimes it's concentrated in about the first 30 seconds after startup, then disappears. Other times it's fine at startup and then randomly does it later on. When it flashes the interference it's very quick and doesn't stay on the screen unless it flashes repeatedly in a row.

This image is a screen shot from a video I took. This is an example of the interference at its worst. Often the interference is much smaller...
