    Re: Sony XBR-65X900H vertical lines

I did watch the video, mine is an H series though and appears different. My TV only has a white and red light that I have seen. I used a 2gb drive and the white light pulsed for a few minutes then the light turned off. I presume it took the update because there was audio again but no picture after the pulsing stopped. I tried renaming the files to force another update but no luck. The firmware for this version comes in a ZIP not a PKG but I tried it anyways.

I did run across a technical bulletin for t-con and/or main board replacement procedure. It requires a WB/MURA/CUC data transfer between the t-con and main but this requires the screen to at least turn on so the service menu can be used.

As a last ditch I did order another t-con and new lvds cable to rule them out.

Not sure where to go from here.

Zip files are not suitable for tv updates, them must be uncompressed in the usb key root

According to Sony's support page for this model it looks like it call for using the zip

        Download the Updater:
Before you install the update, you'll need to download the update files from the Internet and save them to a USB flash drive.

Click the Download button at the top of this page, then read and accept the terms and conditions.
Once you have accepted the terms and conditions, click the Download button at the bottom of the page to download the update files to your computer.
Verify the downloaded file names and size (see the File Info section).
Extract the downloaded files to a location on your computer you can easily find.
Make sure that a sony_tvotafull_202x_zzzzzzzzzz_yyy_auth folder is created and that it contains the following files:
        sony_dtvxxxxxxxxxxxx_xxxxxxxx_zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.zip
        sony_dtvxxxxxxxxxxxx_xxxxxxxx_zzzzzzzzzzzzzz_xxxx.dep
Connect the USB flash drive to your computer.
Go to the location where the extracted files are saved and copy (or drag and drop) the two files from the sony_tvotafull_202x_zzzzzzzzzz_yyy_auth folder into the root directory of the USB flash drive.
Note: The root directory is the first or top-most directory of the device, which contains all the other folders.
Remove the USB flash drive from your computer and continue to the next section

I always extract the file and put the .pkg on the root of the usb stick.

Tested a second t-con and a new set of lvds cables, still can't get an image. Probably going to call this a one a loss.

                    Re: Sony XBR-65X900H vertical lines

power the tv with the tcon disconnected

should give the error with the green/ amber light

then you will have to update/ pair it

then add usb with update file and see what happens

                    worth a shot

                      Re: Sony XBR-65X900H vertical lines

I have yet to be able to get any sort of amber/green error lights. It's an H series which I believe is different than the other series and may display errors differently. The TV only has a white and red lights that I have seen. I got a white light pulsing for a few minutes with the jump drive plugged in, then the light turned off. I presume it took the update because there was audio again but no picture after the pulsing stopped. I have tried additional updates but it does not seem to force the TV to reflash. The manual specifically says it will ignore the same version firmware and I have not found anything referencing a way around this.

The service and the diagnostic manuals all seem to indicate that there should be a test pattern or service menu displayed during the repair process in order to perform the "sync" yet I get nothing. This is what makes me lean towards a bad panel or larger problem.

If the tv is an Android like diah says, then try many combinations as you can with the flash stick inside and with extracted or not files, with portable devices it is usually Vol- / power, try it with the tv body power key or remote power key.. try power key kept pushed for different time, example 5sec, 10sec, 15sec..
don't give up.. i know what i say..

Did a lot of research with my xbr 900 series, and these symptoms that you have a WHOLE lot of people had, I only saw it solved in one of 3 ways, an update, new eMMC or new mainboard.

But they did not have vertical lines so still a puzzle.

The vertical lines were only when I was trying the tape trick. The normal untouched screen is just black with backlights.

I replaced the whole main board which fixed the original no power condition and flickering red light. Now I have power, start and menu sounds just no image. I would assume the eMMC is working since it's booting but I'm no expert.

Those damn eMMC's can be tricky, they can present symptoms in at least a few different ways and still be bad.

Check Nick's tv on youtube, my memory is bad but I think I recall him saying check the little mlc capacitors near the chip for shorts which is usually a sure sign of a bad chip, if it's not just the cap that is bad, which is easy enough to check if cap is removed. But always check results many times because some of those caps are supposed to have low ohms, it is tricky.

+1. I mentioned this in post 3. Nick has a lot of experience with sony TVs.
