    phillips 42pf7321D

My phillips 42pf7321D recently started acting up.At first it wouldn't come on just went to flashing red light 4 times. After reading different sites I tried updating software. Now it doesn't flash red light anymore, but won't come on at all.I unplug and re-plug and hear something click, but still wont come on.I did notice some blinking light inside the set(can see it through vents on top of set).
Also read somewhere that it could be C8059 and C8060 caps that need replaced.I'm not very tech-inclined,how hard would these be to replace, and what tools would be needed to do this?
any helps, tips, suggestions are appreciated, also any links to buy caps, tools, etc would be great.THANKS

update:just tried tv again..plug in,tapped slightly on back of set and it came on...seems somethings loose.

I'm not sure if this set is one of those known to have two bad caps in the power supply. The service manual for the set appears to be here.

If it is, the replacement is simple - remove the back of the TV, pull the power supply, replace the caps, reinstall the power supply (make sure you hook up all the cables), test, reinstall the back.

You will need standard tools - soldering iron, solder, 2 ea 3300uF,10V caps (Panasonic FM or equivalent, don't try getting by with anything from Radio Shack), as well as a couple of Torx bits. Oh, and some muscle, a flat solid surface to work on, and a lot of patience. There are about 60 screws that have to come off to open this up.

This tv plays fine as long as its left on..Once its turned off it doesn't want to come back on.I got it back on yesterday by plugging& unplugging repeatedly.Would caps cause this or bad power supply? Thanks again..

That sounds very much like bad caps.

I can't emphasize too much that what you are doing is a really bad idea. Operating the TV with bad caps not only stresses other components in the power supply, it stresses components in the rest of the TV. At present the repair would cost about US$5.00 in parts, and take a couple of hours. A replacement power supply would cost over US$100. It is NOT going to get better by itself!!!

If you don't have experience soldering, ask your friends, inquire about ham radio operators, or take the TV to a service shop.

Thanks for the link...got them in the mail yesterday.
I took the back off the tv and waiting on friend of mine to do the replacement for me..I hope thats all it needs,as I notice that it looks like only one of the two is bad.In the pic you can see the one on the right is swelled at top and looks to have been leaking something black..
would just the one be causing my problems.

Defintely replace them all. Bulged=bad, not bulged could still be as bad.

On a modern monitor (anything more than 800x600) that picture is about the size of a postage stamp.

                          I'm back...
I got another 3 years out of it..and problems begin again
This time it seems different,no flashing red lights. The screen went black and no sound.I unplugged it for the night and the next time I plug in,green LED comes on for about 10-15 sec then goes back off.Going to take it apart and see if it is same problem as last time...
In the meantime,I ran across a craigslist ad for a 51" Samsung plasma that has sound but the screen is cracked.I'm not sure of model# yet,but would this be a possible source for parts for my phillips if my problem isn't bad caps?
                          again,Thanks in advance for help
