What board controls the brightness of the screen on a plasma display. The picture is ok in a poorly lit room but in a room with lights on I can barely see the picture. This is a 2005 model. I already changed the zsus board.

You need to check your voltages from the power supply against the sticker on the panel.
There will be a white sticker in the upper right hand corner or left hand corner on the pdp itself. looks something like this va/60 vs/175

You will be able to find va and vs on the power supply board.

Was the picture better after you changed the z board? It will need the v set on it as well.

not better after I changed the board the same. from reading on here I think i need to change the other board. The one I changed had a burn trail on it so i know it was bad.

i am teaching myself to work on tvs. I already repaired 2. both of those were lcd. This plasma is older and more to it, so it seems. I repaied two ps3s also.

A 2005 plasma should have the minimum amount of boards in it. The z will give a very dim goofy picture. Bad y can sometimes give a dim picture, but mostly no picture.

You need to check v

If these are hybrid ic y and z you will hear them running or fireing and they will be warm and/or hot.

I need a model number so I know what boards you have.

i ordered the y board and the color improved but pic stayed dim so i ordered the other one and will put it on tomorrow.

Sorry for being slow, which board did you refer to as "other board" and "new board fixed the problem"?

the y board fixed the problem. I changed the z board first, it had a burn path on it.
