    UC384x critical cap

Well I had repaired an old Antec SP350 that had a blown (IIRC) Fuhjyyu 47uF 25V capacitor for the critical cap with an Elna 47uF 25V 85°C general purpose capacitor. It works but I can bet this will fail someday...

However I still do not have any 47uF 25V 105°C low ESR caps on hand.

What I'm wondering... I have a small pile 100uF 50V 105°C PM capacitors... Tempted to swap that 47uF with the 100uF which should be a quality capacitor and won't die prematurely...

    But it's double the capacitance!

I wonder what would happen if I do the swap, the PSU probably would take longer to start up, but would it do anything ... and whether I should use two 100uF capacitors in series to more closely match the original? This unfortunately is tricky as each 100uF is already like double the size of the original 47uF.

100uf will work, but the startup will be delayed a bit while the cap charges

wondering if the slowdown would affect power good and other powerup sequencing... anyone tried?

oh it's a Nichicon PM cap... 5000 hour, probably due to its larger than average size for a 100μF cap...

unlikely, i suspect this is the standby supply,
PG is related to the main supply

Actually I think this PSU uses the UC384x as the main supply much like the SP300 (the SP400 seems to use a TL494).

I once did some testing on a switching power supply that had issues with supplying enough current so tried to changed the capacitor by the switching power supply regulator and either it would not power on or it did a lot wining noise so you might be able to go up a little bit higher in UF value but it might not be to double it like you are thinking about

FSCK. Nope, was wrong, the 47uF capacitor was not the critical cap for the UC384x, it's for the 2T standby PSU... So agreed I don't think I can much with the value that much, ugh.... need to locate specific values...

I did that before in one case, because of the same reason not caving the right cap on hand. So instead of 25V 47uF I put 50V 100uF. All that happened was the power supply took now a quarter to a half of a second more to turn on. Funny thing is I did forget this until I read this thread. Guess what: That thingy I fixed still works like that. 8 years no issues.

hey Im very new to repairing electronics with capacitors as well as using a multimeter so I need so help/guidance fixing this issue

recently I was handed a family members old NAD C320BEE that they had in their loft for storage for a few years but when powered on it went into power safety mode due to a problem on the protection circuit somewhere before it went into storage I was told it worked fine I found lots of people online talking about how the capasitors are known to be pretty bad in this model and can cause this issue the only problem being I don't have much experience sorting...

                  TCL 49S405 double image
                  by howardc64
LCD displays a 2nd image slighty offset vertically. And multiple pairs of black lines along the bottom. Probably common as google "TCL 49S405 double image" pulls up this ifixit post ( link ) with identical ( nearly, but their fault seems to be on the other half of the panel than mine ) problem without solution.

This one looks to be a more difficult to diagnose because most? of TCON seems integrated ( CSOT BGA on buffer baord) into the left panel edge board ( looking from rear of TV) There are 2 buffer boards for each 1/2 of the screen. Main connects to the left buffer board...

I have been waiting for these switching power supplies to come well they came in today so I took one apart and found that it Capcon and EIite and another brand that is on my list of capacitors to replace on site it has several 0.47uf @ 50 volts ESR value twice the reading of a new one 10 UF @ 50 volts almost twice the ESR value of a new one 47 UF @ 59 volts with double the ESR value 100 UF almost the same as a new one it got replaced for good measure Iit was a brand if I see them...

                  Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
