Component identification - weird resistor

Is this really a 540 Ohm resistor? Why is there a completely different share of green printed on it? Like olive green of sort. Am I reading this wrong? Seems wrong for it's application. It is on power supply board input.

Looks like 150kΩ post a picture of the board, Is the location marked as R** or L**

It is R801 so clearly marked as a resistor.

I think it is across the a/c line or to ground, I suspect it is 150k. Is it in a tv? Post a picture of the whole board

Yep, traced the mains input and it is across parallel to a MOV. How come if it's 150k it does not match the color bands whatsoever? 150k would be "brown green black orange brown" right? This one is clearly "black green(?) yellow brown green" Which adds up to 540 Ohm.

What does it measure on your ohm meter? or it could be read the other way 51.4MΩ 1%

What does it measure on your ohm meter?

510kOhm right now, the leg fell off. Before it was showing high megaohms so its a little burned.

It is a 510k 1/2watt will not effect the power supply's operation.

R809 is in series with that spark gap, this is R801 and it is in parallel with a MOV and, a big capacitor and the rest of circuit. Seems to be a part of input RC filter.

510kOhm it is then. Why they marked that resistor completely wrong is beyond me. Thanks for the help.

If you read the resistor:
Green (5) 1st digit
Brown(1) 2nd digit
Yellow(5) multiplier
Green (±0.5%) tolerence
Brown (100ppm/°C) temperature coefficient


So what is wrong with the tv/power supply?

watch your fingers, that resistor is to discharge the polyester caps!

If you read the resistor:

Brown (100ppm/°C) temperature coefficient

Yeah, decoding it like 4 band resistor works. The fact that it has 5 bands is not typical as it does not decode as a 5 band resistor properly.

So what is wrong with the tv/power supply?

Lightning damage, input protection was scorched. New MOV, two 6.3A fuses and this dreaded resistor and we're up and running again.

I thought it's primary function was to form some sort of parallel RC filter at the input, but yeah, it will dissipate charge from that capacitor nicely.

Glad to here it's working, Sometimes its hard to tell with these components, like when the first band on a resistor is black (0), I see this all the time
