    psu question

ok simple question and go ahead and call me stupid I had a psu in one of my servers go out today so I figured before I go pick up a new one I would see if recapping would solve the issue what it is doing and if does it with a MB hooked to it or a psu tester it comes on and will run varying times one time it will run for 2 min the next time for 10 sec I can't find any components that look physically bad so I am at aloss at what to check first.

oh it is a coolmax ap-600x if it is shit please tell me as it came in the case i picked up second had to build the system about 1yr ago

    coolmax=sirtec

They are usually mediocre at best. Not complete crap, but not good either.

          Re: psu question

From the pics, this one looks okay actually. Heatsinks are okay size. Good sized main transformer. Adequate 5vsb rectifing diode. Fan controller. Adequate primary side filtering.
I can't see the caps on the secondary side, though. Maybe those could be the problem but I can't really see (they sure look like Fuhjyyu though). More pics of the secondary side would be really helpful.
If there's one bulged or leaking capacitor on the secondary side, you'll need to replace all the caps of that brand.
Also, one last question... What are you powering in that server (processor, number of hard drives, etc.)?

yeah, the primary caps are fujhyyu so the rest probably are. recap that if you plan to use it.

Does that thing have a huge pot for fan speed adjustment?

A small screwdriver actuated pot would have sufficed .

If they're Fukyuus I'd love to ESR probe them they'd probably be off the charts 75 ohms and over anyone ?

Fujiuyuus are known junk PERIOD. Replace on sight no matter what electronics you find them in.

It's not if they'll fail in a PSU it's when.

I had an Antec with Fujiyuus that powered up and turned off in an infinite loop every 4 seconds or so when connected to a computer.

So yes bad caps can wreak havoc and cause undesired operation in any circuit.

panasonic fm is a good replacement.
replace any on the secondary side that bear the "F" word.

i plan to well since I have to go tomorrow and pick up caps in the uf rattings i decided to see if the problem would goaway I had 2 OST caps in the right ratings i had pulled from a board a while back so i replaced the 2 blowed caps it has been setting running with a junk board and 2 old hdds on it for the last hours so i guess the 2 caps were the issue so now I just have to go get the good ones.

                                  Thanks again guys,

                                    Re: psu question

Nice work. New caps should this PSU a lot better. Just make sure to get compatible replacements such as FC an FM (Panasonic), PW and HE (Nichicon), or KY and KZE (United Chemicon).
Replace all of the secondary-side caps (the ones in and near the red circle in your picture above) and the 5vsb filtering caps (blue one in 3rd picture down from your first set of pictures). As for the two big 200v caps on the primary side - they usually don't go bad so you don't need to replace them. But it should only be about $7 more, so if you feel like it why not.
By the way, look for caps with the following ratings:
                                    22uF 25v, 22uF 50v, 47uF 25v, 47uF 50v.
Those are sometimes critical (depending on the PSU design). If you see any Fuhjyyu caps with those ratings, make sure to replace them.

I found an interesting summary on a wiki that Youtube "right to repair" enthusiast Louis Rossman put up. He suggested I could use a hardware firewall and pfSense as a firewall, and use pfSenseNG as an ad blocker. Or use OPNSense as a similar alternative. Seems like it would be easy to set up, but it only runs on the hardware supported by BSD. (I'm sure the developers and maintainers of BSD are super-busy and cannot support every single piece of hardware out there, so I can't fault them.)

The trick, apparently, is to "assign IP address lists from sites like I-blocklist...

                                      Curious - clock going ahead
                                      by televizora
I've encountered curious and strange issue with HP Probook 8470p - the clock is constantly going ahead without any reason at all.
If I try to synchronize it, everything is fine, but after hour or two I notice that the clock is again 9-12 minutes ahead.
That's extremely weird. Logically, I checked the time zone and DST - everything is fine there.
That's only if the laptop was put in hibernation and then turned on again. If it was turned off and then on - everything is fine.
                                      Any suggestions?

How has the laptop's bios broken... Could someone tell me where it is physically on the motherboard???
I have pointed out two possible candidates to be the bios, but it seems a little strange to me that such an old laptop has two bios...

I have been trying to solve this issue the past 12 months to no avail. I have been a lurker here during that time but finally decided to post my problem and see if anybody knows a solution.

                                      Problem
My tv (OLED55CXPUA) has an issue where it displays horizonal lines of dotted artifacts.

                                      Self Diagnosing
After a very long troubleshooting period I traced the issue to the T-Con board. If I gently flexed/bend the board I could make the display go from GOOD to BAD and vice versa. I have ruled out the connectors/wires...

                                      Hi All.

I have an 820-02016 board (A2337 M1) that has come in for data recovery. Reported as liquid damage, but no visible evidence of any liquid damage.

Board was initially stuck at 5v, and current only spiking occasionally to around 400mA and cycling.

After initial troubleshooting, found that C7800 (which feeds the power rail PP5V_BSTLQ_VOUT_SPMU) was dead short to ground.

Replaced C7800 and short gone. Board still stuck at 5v. Current draw behaviour changed. It now spikes up for a second to around 100mA to 130mA, then drops down to...
