I need to build a transient voltage spikes 28 to 30 volts @ 2 amps

How I build something like this

I need it to start clamping the voltage at 28 volts
The data sheet shows that max amperage is 2 amps

This is on a coil type horn

    i'm lost.
you want to make transient spikes, or kill transient spikes???

I want kill transient spikes how would I go about doing this

I not going to hook it to a PLC but I want to follow there recommendations that they have about transient spikes because I want to use a switching power I also have to power a LED strobe unit which has the same requirements about transient spikes

I do not want to fry the switching power supply

      Thanks

        VDR's
operate like a zener diode and look like a disc capacitor.

So what is required suppression limit? I will have to be higher than 24V of the source is 24V. So what is the maximum transient is allowed?

That the part of what I do not know ----> i was thinking of starting to clamp it around 28 volts or so but I do not know if this is right place to start

So are you trying to drive the 24VDC coil type horn (https://www.galco.com/buy/Edwards-Signaling/877-G1) directly or you are trying to drive a switching power supply that requires 24VDC feeding it?

It will be going through a ( 120 or 24 ) volt timer cube on it's aux contacts
But the horn will be powered by the 24 volt switching power supply along with the 24 volt LED strobe light which will not be on a timer

The horn will controlled by ( 120 or 24 ) volt timer cube with its aux contacts
The strobe will be controlled by the controller main contactor aux contacts of the unit that going on

and both of them being powered by the 24 volt switching power supply

I could do it the way you hook up relays to micro controllers up where you put a diode across the coil but I am not sure if this will take care of all transit voltage or not and I do not want to fry the strobe light or the switching power supply

This why I am asking these questions

                          I would use a large TVS diode, 5000W peak-rated like 5KP24A
They don't conduct until 26.7V and deal with the -ve voltage spikes.

The smaller 3000W rated parts are OK but I did not see stock at Digikey.

These buzzers also make a lot of EMI from their contacts arcing, so the wiring to it will radiate EMI. So I would add a 0.22uF cap across the input too.

That would look like a TVS+cap across the buzzer's input connections.
If you want to be sneaky, solder them inside.

I love it when a plan comes together
That is how I am going to do this it has a terminal block where the wires goes

                            Thanks for the info

This get's my vote. The MOV's are a little too "crude" compared to a TVS Diode. The TVS diode will measure open in both directions when good.

The 5KP24A is UNIDIRECTIONAL so polarity must be observed.
The BIDIRECTIONAL will show open circuit in both direction.

That one is ending with CA, so it is bidirectional.

                                          Hello,

I have a Lenovo here that does not want to power on. The motherboard appears to be clean, no sign of corrosion or obvious fried components. When plugged in, I see 3 blinking lights and then off. It would cycle the 3 blinking lights every 10 seconds or so as long as I have the adapter plugged in. Amp meter shows 20 volts, 0.224 amps, no fan spin, red light indicator near the charge port.

Thermal camera shows a section of the motherboard that is warmer than the rest. It is near the connector labels JRTC1 (CMOS battery). Diode measurement to ground for pin 1 = OL,...

                                          Hi everyone.

I am diagnosing my personal laptop, because it wont power on and no leds light up.

At the dc-in there are 8 pins, 1 and 2 shows healthy 19.66 volts. The next three are ground, but the 6th one shows .283 volts. This is strange to me, it should be 3.3 or 5 or aome volts not 0.283v. As I am new to this, I would like some guidance. Please someone advise me on what to check next.

Oh the boardview and schematics I am using is for a similar model as I cannot find the proper one anywhere. Quanta DA0P5HMB8F1 rev F. Nowhere on the internet.

I replaced those two with an exact donor board we had In stock and working, board pulls 5volts and then gets like 2.89 amps on the left side. The singular port is the port that failed. Used a perfectly working chips from donor (board was locked) Now I only get 5volts 0 amps on that power and then 20volts 0 amps on the two left side ports, I checked for DFU and nope nothing, computer not turning on. No shorts present anymore. I am confused as I used the exact components from an identical...

Originally you'd plug power supply into it and it would take up to 1.2 amps and then drop to 200 milliamps and then go back up again to 1.2, staying all the while at 5 volts. Pressing power button would results in power LED blinking amber 3 times. 3.3 volt rail, 5.1 volt rail present, main power rail 8.8 volts. Power button test pads near EC chip 2.7 volts.

I found a short on the other side:
