    Channel Well power brick.

I picked up this PSU from a computer store in town today for $15. Unfortunately when I bought it home, it didn't work at all. It was dead and I got no response out of it whatsoever.
It has a warranty and all, but i decided to be adventurous and crack it open. Also voiding its warranty but I don't really mind. I found a Fuhjyuu (can't spell it) cap that wasn't bulging, but had something like electrolyte crusted around the vent on the top. So I decided to replace that with a temporary cap for now. I decided to use some "Saturn" brand 470uf 16V cap in place of the 16V 470uf Fuhyjuu cap that was leaking.
Then I discovered something else. There was a burn mark on the plastic shield that shielded the circuit shorting with the metal lining in the PSU. There also seemed to be smoke marks around the area as well.
Right where the burn mark was, was where one of the coil legs was soldered to. The solder was cracked and obviously the leg no longer touched the PCB. So I decided to resolder that and then test it. Amazingly it came to life again and the green light was on. I measured the voltage and the output is 12.233V and steady on. I bought this PSU for my LCD monitor because it was rated at 12V 5A which was plenty for my 12V 2A LCD. Anyway, the connector didn't fit the plug, so I spent a good hours worth desoldering the old plug and using another plug from my broken ADSL router.
So now everything is up and running well, so I am happy. But my question is that do I need to replace that "Saturn" brand 470uf 16V cap? or just leave it alone?
And there are two 1000uf 16V Fuhyjuu caps in there. They haven't bulged or anything, but if I don't reaplce these two and they bulge or whatever, am I going to lose my monitor due to overvoltages or whatever?
What was strange was that the store refused to sell me a similar Seasonic unit, but would only sell my the Channel Well unit. I've seen Channel Well built Antec units so I just presume they are good. And the unit does weigh a fair whack.

    Thanks.

    Re: Channel Well power brick.

    Hi Steve.

    Congratulations on getting it functional.

Fuhjyyu branded caps are generally considered to be a "REPLACE ON SIGHT" brand.

My advice is to replace any Fuhjyyu caps you find regardless of condition, but there are a couple of considerations:

Voltage and Capacitance ratings should be matched, but the capacitor type is important as well. Most Fuhjyyu caps found in power supplies are marked "TM" or "TMR". The TM series is a "Low ESR" and "High Ripple Current" type, and it is important to use a similar type and temperature rating.

Also, many Fuhjyyu caps are non-standard sizes, such as a 4700uf/10v in a 10mm diameter can. If there is absolutely no way to fit a standard 12.5mm or 16mm 4700uf cap in there, it is common practice to go down in capacitance but never voltage. (example- substitute a Samxon 3300uf/10v RS available from Badcaps)

    Have Fun,
    Keri

And replace the saturn caps too.

Also find a way to put PSU in new metal case to cool it. I have been finding that 60W 12V & 5A bricks are dying from overheating.

        Re: Channel Well power brick.

I got in touch with my local electronics store and they have the exact low ESR caps I'm looking for. They are the correct size as well with the 1000uf 16V being 10x16mm and 470uf 16V being 8x16mm. Only problem is that they are "Suntan" brand caps. I've never heard of this brand and it would be good if someone could tell me if "Suntan" brand caps are reliable or not.

        Thanks.

Still no go. Get them what we are telling all along. Panasonic, Nichicon, Samxon etc, have to order.

I just sent "test order" money to big pope of kinda big order for us of 1000uF and 2200uF samxon GC and GD in qty of 100 total.

          Cheers, Wizard

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
            by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
            by spleenharvester
            Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

American Audio VLP1500 Distorting on one channel
            by dicky96
Hi guys I have a VLP1500 amplifier here - one channels works fine and the other channel distorts even at low volume settings

Protection and Clip LED are off

There is something wrong with the BIAS voltages around T16 and T18 (in particular) on the bad channel

I tested all diodes and transistors in this area in circuit with diode mode - both channels seem identical. Same in resistance mode across all the resistors here.

The output DC voltages on pin1 and pin8 of the 5532D dual op amp at the input of each amplifier module are the same, and the audio...

            Hitachi V19B01922 Channel Tune problem
            by dicky96
            Hi Guys
I have a customer who has two Hitachi TVs in his bar, one is the model in the thread title and the other is a larger screen but has the same setup menu

He also has an LG TV, so three screens in the bar

            I installed three Satlink ST-6503 DVB-T Modulators
            This model https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32916553905.html

These connect to three satellite receivers via HDMI cables and then connect to a 4 way RF Amp that connects to the TVs on aerial cable. There is no incoming terrestrial antenna. I set the channel ID on the modulators to...

Marantz pm 6005 right channel not worknig
            by sima112
            Hi guys,
I need a help with my Marantz pm6005. It started to have weaker the right channel a few months ago, than it got back to normal and now it has lost sound completely on the right channel. At the final stage it was loosing the channel for a while and than it returned. After it has disappeared completely I could forced it back by unplugging the source form CD (which I normally use) to phone and back. It would then work for a few minutes and died again. Now it is possible power up and all function works normally (apart the right channel ) on all inputs, except the phone both channel...
