    Corsair HX850w blown internal fuse?

Got a corsair HX850w PSu that has a blown internal ceramic fuse

Tested it by just doing a continuity test out of board and its dead.

E.T12AH250V Pigtail (soldered to board) Anyone know where I can source in UK?

Also given it has blown is just a case of replacing it or perhaps a sign of other issues?

you need to fix what killed it first.
start by checking the rectifier & fets.

      Can they be checked inboard?

I was using in the multimeter the continuity scale(200R) but not the diode scale (2KR).

          I desoldered the rectifier.

If the pins are like this - ac1 ac2 + , and the multimeter cables are Red(R) and Black(B), the measures are:
          -(R) ac1(B) 0.55
          -(R) ac2(B) 0.55
          -(R) +(B) 1.241

          +(B) ac2(R) 0.544
          +(B) ac1(R) 0.544
          +(R) -(B) infinite

          ac1(R) ac2(B) infinite
          ac1(B) ac2(R) infinite

          Other combinations, also infinite.

          Then, Is it ok??

I will wait your answer to solder it again into the board.

          Thanks

You can try to check bridge rectifier soldered to the board.

If wrong measures, then check it unsoldered.

2nd hand, bought a faulty PC and seller said PSU was dead.

Weighed up the risks and took a chance as it has some decent parts in it, and given its a Corsair HX unit which are quality, there was a good chance it would have protected the other components when dying.

Might as well tinker with it, learn and if it gets fixed great if not no loss.

What is resistance between the two outer pads (no bridge rectifier in place) where the bridge was soldered to? Same question for the two inner pads.

is that the correct type of fuse? E.T12AH250V is what it says on the current fuse

                  that's a match.

not good having 12A in a 6.3mm package though, they are only designed to go upto 6.3 originally.

Could you link me somewhere I can actually buy, struggling to find anywhere in stock.

Went to maplins and they only had 10a, cant see any on farnells either.

i have not seen anywhere in the u.k. that sells 20mm fuses with wires on them - i looked a while back for some 6.3a ones for dell psu's

try ebay - the chinese probably have them.

Would using a 10a be suitable?

No Problem, you are in the UK so have 230v, the big rating of the fuse is only needed if you feed it 110v...

No, they are useless. They didn't even know they exist.

I've just thought sod it and order 5 off eBay US for £15 delivered. Nothing in stock in the U.K. with reasonable postage. Even the 10a were hard to find. Mouser had them but wanted £12 shipping for the privilege.

So I'll have a few spare if anyone in the U.K. needs some.

well at that price, dont go fitting them till you find what made the original blow!

Make sure you get a TIME DELAY fuse.

The original fuse is 250v, 12A time delay. ATX power supplies can pull up to 30-40A for a few ms when they're plugged into the mains socket, so a regular fuse may blow.

As you are on 230v, the current used regularly is smaller, so you'll probably be fine with a fuse rated for less current, worst that could happen would be fuse blowing up.

Still, you should check the circuit before installing a new fuse.

See cpc.farnell.com , they may have something, even if not with premade leads, you could bodge something there.

soldering wires to 20mm fuses usually wont work btw, the heat makes the air/gas in the fuse expand and blow the cap off the end!
you can guess how i found out!
