Re: Morex Int'l ATX-300C, worth a recap?
Thank you for the detailed replies.
I recapped the secondary filter caps with FC series and it has made no difference.
Will possibly grab a multi meter and see if any of the rails drop but I would say it freezes the system faster now than before....

Morex Int'l ATX-300C, worth a recap?
Thought I would have a look inside this as I had a issue with a system freezing ( socket A Thunderbird system)
Thought it was a odd design, what do people make of it?
Edit - Nothing visual wrong, obviously may start with a recap but swapping the PSU solved the freezing issue.
I like older socket A systems so these older PSU that are weighted towards the 5V rail always catch my eye....Last edited by Bungz; 08-18-2021, 01:38 AM.

Re: [Retro] Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev2.0 Power issue related to caps?
I would not change the MBZ, not seen any of those fail on these boards.
The OST are usually hardy but would not discount those as possible problems, they do fail.
I would personally try something as daft as reflashing a later bios onto the board first, sounds a odd issue.

Re: Akasa AK-P400FG - No power up.
Oops yes
Will check the voltage across the caps and report back....

Akasa AK-P400FG - No power up.
Hello all, been a while hope are all well.
Pulled this rather shiny number out of a build.
Has its 12V standby but on powering the machine it does nothing.
Swapped the PSU out and the build was fine so there the problem lies.
Odd PSU layout for me, has a couple of daughterboards unfamiliar to me.
Full of teapos but all look perfect. No visual clues to whats going on.
Thanks!...

Re: FSP300-60PNA toasty resistor
Will see how it effects the rails and will maybe leave it out in that case.
The Teapos look fine but you are right ideally they would be swapped.
Thanks for the reply

Re: FSB300-60PNA toasty resistor
Haven't fired it up yet was in a lot of old stuff i was given.
I think I will re sleeve it and see what happens, I just wondered as it seems to have got very hot but it hasn't degraded under the paint, seems solid....

FSP300-60PNA toasty resistor
Bit of a odd PSU this, its huge and has a very hefty weight to it yet only 300w.
Has a very meaty 5V rail which would be nice to use with my socket A stuff.
On inspection it has a dead Jamicon and a large resistor that has got very hot.
Anyone any idea if this resistor would be ok to resleeve and use again or does it need to be swapped? I have no idea of what its original rating would be.
Thanks in advance....

Re: Asus sabertooth 990fx VRM COOLING
I had a few set ups with the FX stuff and found similar problems, insane power reqs, ultra hot VRMs and lots of throttling!
As above stick a fan on them, I used to use a Antec Cool Spot which worked well.

Re: Recapping Jeantech JNP-400P
It was the caps I used for the Standby, I was thrown off when the standby itself was fine but wouldn't power on.
Lesson learned!
Thanks for the input, always appreciated.

Re: Recapping Jeantech JNP-400P
Recapped this and while I have a perfect 5vsb the PSu will not power. Jumper trick and no action.
Ideas? Everything looks ok not sure what I have done

Could that small cap be swapped for a larger? There is space on the silk screen....

Recapping Jeantech JNP-400P
Hello again
I am rebuilding a older system and would like to keep this PSU with it but it is a little tired being ten years old and caps around the 5Vsb were bulging.
I have most caps in stock so will recap it.
The issue I wanted to address is it seems to only have one 16V cap, is this right that all the 12V filtering is done by a single cap? I have annotated the attached picture.
If the two 3300uf 10V caps really are just for 5V am I ok to use 6.3V due to size issues? Just wanted to check never seen a PSU of reasonable quality with...

Zotac GTX 970 Dual Fan inductor ? replacement
Hey guys
Picked up a card recently that needed a bit of tlc.
Works perfectly but I have noticed the top of this component has come off.
Could anyone confirm exactly what it is and what the markings refer to?
And maybe where to pick one up
Thanks!
Edit so far I can make out it is a 1.0uH inductor. How do I figure out how much current it should be rated for?...Last edited by Bungz; 03-28-2017, 01:04 PM.

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame
The PSU predates the Compaq by some years without a doubt.
I figured the person I acquired the machine off did a quick fix and swapped the PSU out for one from a older machine.
Usually I am up for repairing such things but the weak 12V rail really means its rather useless for me in this system.
Machine however is now sporting a 300W FSP unit and it working perefctly

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame
Found this little beauty in a Compaq Presario A64.
Must have been a thoughtless replacement at some point for the original!
Fan was very stiff so I guess it ran hot and somewhat overloaded for some time in order to cook more or less every cap in the unit!...

Re: Abit KX7-333
X700 isn't a particularly desirable card anyway, if you are making a retro system it doesn't really belong in a older board such as you have.
Geforce 3 and 4's are usually very easy to come by, a 9800 pro would be a good card too.

Re: RJARRRPCGP rig 5.0
Very nice.
If you want a cheap upgrade to a 6 core 12 thread CPU grab a Xeon 5650 or similar off eBay for next to nothing
