There are incidents of 13009 large package with good primary caps, big heatsinks and good psu design to do 400W but I don't think that would be the case here..

If it makes it to 400 watts, we could say "The devil made me do it!"

Only c hedge could tell for sure if he load tested the unit.. Sun pro is not famous for its designs though.

Looks more like a 35 core. And I don't trust SunPro designs. They are up there with Leadman/PowMax IMO. So I still stand by my 200-250 Watt rating. Sure the thing might make it up to 300 Watts... maybe even 350 W. But I bet the ripple will be through the roof at that point. Also, what about long term reliability? Would you trust this thing to run even 8 hours a day every day? I wouldn't - not past 250 Watts anyways. Below that, it should be okay... until the caps cook, that is. Let's NOT ignore that 8.2 Ohm dummy load resistor on the 3.3V rail now. (At 3.3V, it would be dissipating a whopping 1.33 Watts. Can we say, cap cooker?)

The label on the transformer is marked as 39.

                      Re: Diablotek Power Supplies

Finally found the problem with the 500 watt devil. The bottom switching transistor (13009) had emitter to base short. Didn't blow the fuse. The transistor must have been acting like a diode allowing the other transistor to conduct properly. The shorted emitter to base caused the driver transformer to look like a short on one of the output windings, and was reflected back to the primary winding. Therefore the primary side signal had only a half of what was expected - when the good transistor was conducting. Made it look like the driver transistors were bad and had low output. Even with one switching transistor working properly, there was not enough power, so the supervisory circuitry shut down the output. Now this devil is working!

This one had no line filter, no x cap, and only one y cap across the line side. Strange to see only one y cap. This has been corrected. It now has x cap, line filter coil, and both y caps.

I did 650W output with a pair of 13009s in TO-3P package, at 40C ambient temps. Cooled by a single 80mm fan and the heatsink was not at all oversized. So no, they don't just blow at 400 watts. It's all about the efficiency. Most of the wasted power in cheap PSUs is in the output rectifiers. The more you waste there, the harder the primary has to work as well, which makes everything run hotter... and it continues until something explodes.

This is why you see things like twin 60A diodes used on a 30, maybe 40A 12v rail in brand-name PSUs (for those that do not use the even more efficient synchronous rectification). The lower you can get that voltage drop on the secondary, the more power you can squeeze out of the same primary silicon.

More like four 30A. That is most common. Actually 60A rectifiers are very rare, that is close to package limit and also than switching losses get higher than conducting losses.

If you have a PC with a 12V 4-pin CPU plug (i.e. Pentium 4 and newer), try that. Maybe they (whoever manufactured the PSDA400) added a few extra turns on the main transformer for the 12V rail to keep it a bit higher under load. So perhaps the 12V rail is going a tad bit too high with that Pentium 3 PC (which draws power for CPU from 5V rail) and making the PSU shut down?.
I hooked up the 400 watt devil (Diablotek) to a K7MNF-64 with AMD cpu. It is a emachine pullout with 12V 4-pin CPU plug. It comes up running and continued for an hour or so with no problem. Turned it off and decided to not risk damaging mobo and other parts by running this poorly filtered cheapo. At least this verified your theory. I would expect better regulation from a "better" power supply.

Hello everyone, boy do i have a treat for you guys and gals too today. I went to the computer store liquidation sale and managed to snag a Diablotek PSU that was sitting in their storeroom for almost 4 years. I snagged it for 2 dollars.I won't pay more for this kind of crap.

It's a Diablotek 350 watt psu with 2 fans and it reminded me of a same brand psu i had in the past (more on that later) it says in the box 350 watts

NOOOO Input Filters at all( so that was that hum around my house was when i plugged it in)
                              4 Diode Treatment
                              LCZ main craps
                              BH craps the rest
                              Bao DI Crap Fan

It has all ST and Fairchild chips ( i can't believe these brands are in there)

Now about why this reminded me about a previous PSU, i used to frequent this store back in 2001 when i had my first pc an Emachines etower 667ir ,I wanted to upgrade memory ,cd drives etc, and i decided i needed a better power supply (2003) yeah boy was i a , i purchased a diablotek 350 watt micro atx psu since it was so small, i thought this was great ( i wish i had joined this site long ago) maybe it's better quality? i only used the power supply for a total of three months then decided to build a new pc.

I tossed the PC in the closet and forgot about it, more than a year ago doing cleanup i decided to take a look at that PSU it had the same layout but had G luxon all caps and none were bulged, it had a sort of full input filtering minus a x cap and looked beefy enough to me at the time maybe i was wrong what really caught my eye was at the corner of the PSU board it said : "ENGSMPL" and thought of nothing else at the time so i guessed it wasn't a final version? how did it end up in my hands? but i didn't need the computer as its motherboard went bad. and turned it over to a recycler , which i wish i never did, so diablotek maybe good in the past , wtf now....

sorry for such a long post

So I have a cheap non working ATX PSU that I was learning to repair a decade ago. At the time, it blew the main fuse, bridger rectifier, NTC, and primary 9A 900V MOSFET. Replaced all except the MOSFET. 5VSB came back online. Then I poked around in it so much, measuring components one by one to a point I accidentally made the 5VSB circuit primary side went bang. Blown the AP8022 (Viper22A) PWM chip, along with a low resistance resistor and the PC817 opto isolator. I replaced them all.

In the process of poking around, I also lost a zener diode that stabilize the voltage coming from...

                                        Hi,

Finally replaced all of the shorted 4148's and resistors and an blown tl431 on my FSP300-60GTF after 5VSB going crazy and destroying it self. Those components also made the secondary transistors appear shorted (while in reality they weren't).
Powered it on through my dim bulb tester and they (bulbs) only flash once meaning primary caps are getting charged, but that's it. No 5VSB, PS_ON voltages.
I am sure I have replaced the components correctly and that there weren't any shorted/blown traces left.

Any ideas where to go next?

                                        Hi to all 😎
I'm looking for any useful information to repair this interface (I have attached the image).
On this board I read E3215-1215A_4D.
This is the small plate inside the HD enclosure that allows to connect a 12 volt power supply, interface the disk with a USB 3.0 socket and is connected to the HD with the SATA connector.

If any of you have found a burnt or short-circuited component in a circuit like mine, if you have useful diagrams for the repair, or even better a description for the tests at the test points, I would be very grateful.

                                        Hi,

Back after a long hiatus with some old power supplies that need repairing. I've recently picked up a couple of 386SX systems, two 486DX systems, a SiliconGraphics Indy and an iMac G3 that either have verified leaking capacitors in their power supplies, or are likely to in the near future. For the sake of simplicity, instead of tackling all at once, I'm starting with the 386's and one of the 486's.

The 386's power supplies are Seasonic SS4040A's, with caps that are visibly leaking, and 9 replacement caps per unit are required. Most appear to be from the Rubycon...

                                        Hello...

I got my self a dead CM V700 PSU, with nothing on +5vsb

I have tried to fix it for the past 2 week, and I'm stuck... so i guess i post it here to get some pointer before i scrap it..

As you can see in photo, the psu still pretty clean, no visible damage or bulging cap.. when i got it, it still has CM seal on it

The +5vsb system use ICE2QR4765, I have trace and measure the voltage on ICE2QR4765 and the only voltage reading i got is in VCC 4.8v, Drain 310v and FB 3v.

I have read the datasheet and and still can not...
