Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1
Shame older WD drives (not the newer ones, warranty is much lower) were the best. Im surprised the drive actually posted at all considering the platters were bent, what are you planning to do with it?
Decided to clean out some of the parts out of my office, one of them is a Trigem OEM Samsung Spinpoint 15GB EIDE made in June 2001, it made some noises but came to life, This came from my old Emachines eTower 667ir.
So i received from someone else today for free (from a family friend, where i got 2 other...

Re: Computer jobs that are like kicking yourself in nuts.
Yeah i remember someone asked me to repair a newer HP Pavillion laptop cause the battery wasn't holding a charge.
Unfortunately i couldn't find the battery to remove it,turns out the battery was inside. I did manage to replace the battery by taking the bottom piece apart and the battery has to be removed with a screwdriver i did find the battery had bulged a bit. I had some trouble unscrewing it but managed to replace it, i prefer laptops that have batteries easy to replace like my Dell Latitude D630, not having...Last edited by coreAngel; 05-13-2019, 04:38 PM.

Re: Where do you get your capacitors?!
You are correct the sample kits are what i use on occasion if i need some caps to test out this Particular kit you mentioned is a good price
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Nichicon/LIGHTING-KIT?qs=NQ0%2FQD4pyarZsxcHHaGsoA%3D%3D&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1r6g7q2M4gIVjSCtBh0BtgBSEAYYASABEgKpK_D_BwE
for only 56 dollars including shipping (you can select priority mail shipping, i highly recommend it)
is actually cheaper than buying it individually, which totals to 85 including shipping....

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
I know they are bad, but i remember reading somewhere that Fuhjyyu was made by Chhsi for them...i could be wrong if i am, sorry
I looked up Fuhjyyu and the address listed (google maps) just shows a tiny office not a factory.

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
Ahh Fuhjyyuaka Chiisi caps. (Chiisi caps still exist)
I remember i purchased some Spiral flourescent bulbs from a store and were UL certified (CFL are harder to find now cause of LEDs), one day i smelled something burning, and found the CFL bulb smoldering and sparking, i plugged off the lamp, and looked at the base, a 2 Fuhjyyu caps vented shorting out the bulb, i was lucky i didnt leave home.
Now LED bulbs are using Aishi caps in an unusual way. They put the cap on wires...

Re: Need help identifying polymer capacitor on motherboard
According to the Asus ROG site:
"Longevity is also a prime directive, so the new capacitors are rated for 10,000 hours of operation at 105゚C. Of course, since your system won't regularly reach those temperatures, expect an even longer lifespan"
The caps on the board are custom made and rated 10000 hours, which make no sense since most components would fail before the caps would fail.
The United Chemi-Con replacement is good enough, it is rated...

Re: Need help identifying polymer capacitor on motherboard
I looked up the motherboard caps on here
https://rog.asus.com/articles/overclocking/asus-rog-black-metallic-capacitors-on-new-rampage-boards/
I can't seem to find the caps anywhere
However the closest thing with 5mA ripple current as it said on the page the closest thing i could find is this

Re: Need help identifying polymer capacitor on motherboard
Now this is where it gets interesting ( i didn't know it was a motherboard) your Asus ROG Rampage IV Extreme has custom Nichicon GT (it still says FP using Fujitsu Polymer) Series polymer caps, which i cant seem to find any.
Polymer caps tend to last a very long time(this one says about 10K + hours) why do you need to replace the cap, did you do any testing?...

Re: Need help identifying polymer capacitor on motherboard
FP is Fujitsu Polymer Capacitors (FPCAP) which was a popular Polymer cap manufacturer before getting bought out by Nichicon
270 uf 16v is the correct one
can you show a pic of the cap if it is possible? just to be sure
though i would choose that cap you posted https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/United-Chemi-Con/APSG160ELL271MF08J?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvR1wrj203KOJWPG6hOwpDzK5ECdMja1%252bFgW6gbYmA8OQ%3d%3dRe: Need help identifying polymer ca...on motherboard...

Re: Help Identifying Capacitor Brands
I would go with Japanese brand like Panasonic, however there are Audio Grade Nichicon caps (including Muse series), here
https://www.mouser.com/Nichicon/Passive-Components/Capacitors/Aluminum-Electrolytic-Capacitors/Aluminum-Electrolytic-Capacitors-Leaded/_/N-75hqw?P=1yztuatZ1z0zlbm&FS=True
I agree that General Purpose caps is ok in a non audio application area, and KYB is ok in a Audio area, thats what i would doRe: Help Identifying Capacitor Brand...

...

Re: Help Identifying Capacitor Brands
Couldnt find anything on the OECi cap, it seems like a generic cheap brand because you can buy it relatively cheap online.
The TCI cap is the mystery, on one hand it looks like cheap cap, however TCI used to manufacture caps in the USA
theres some audio forums posts asking about TCI caps

Re: Bad or just glue?
I'm looking at the pics you sent it does look like glue although i'm not sure if its the chloroprene type glue, (which becomes conductive when it blackens)
The mystery is the component its covering is it a zener diode, or an inductor.... that's what im trying to figure out. I would remove the glue but im unsure if it killed that component.....
