Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
The old batteries were 3 years old, but the new one was purchased just a few weeks ago. When I put them in, the unit reported them as 7%, however, so perhaps the new ones are bad as well. Am waiting for the replacement ones to arrive to test.
The 27.8V was with the batteries disconnected. Just checked the charging current and it was 13.5mA (which seems really low). The unit is reporting 60% again and the batteries show 24.4V which seems to correspond to the 60% based on a state-of-charge chart.
One side note, if it matters. The new batteries are 7AH while the old ones were 9AH. I read that the only difference was a reduced run-time, but don't know for sure.

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
So right all the batteries you have for testing are 3 years old or more? It sounds to me like the batteries are not holding up the charge.
BTW, that 27.8V readings is with the batteries connected, right?
You can also connect DC Amp meter (connected in series with the battery or use DC A clamp on meter) to see how much charging current is being fed to the batteries.Last edited by budm; 04-23-2018, 09:44 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
Hmm, the charging circuit is on the minute you plug the power cord into the AC outlet.
From user manual:

HARDWARE INSTALLATION GUIDE
1. Battery charge loss may occur during shipping and storage. For the first time the UPS is used, it's strongly
recommended to charge batteries for at least eight hours is recommended to ensure that the batteries' maximum
charge capacity. To recharge the batteries, simply make the UPS plugs into an AC outlet.
I have lots of Cyber power UPS here at work.
I had left the unit charging overnight and it was up to 49%. I turned it off and measured the leads from the UPS and it was 27.8V. I measured the batteries and they were at 24.2V.
However, when I reconnected and turned the unit back on, the capacity dropped to 3%.Leave a comment:

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
I'm having a similar issue with a Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD and a lot of fruitless Googling finally led me to this thread/forum.
The unit itself has worked flawlessly for the last 9-10 years and I've replaced the batteries every ~3 years or so. A few weeks ago, I once again replaced the batteries and they initially showed as 7%. They charged up to ~60% and then stopped (software shows 60% and charging for over a day). Thinking the batteries were defective, I requested a replacement and put back in the old batteries even though they were very weak.
However, the old batteries showed similar behavior. I took them out and charged them to full on a regular charger and put them back in only to see them drop from ~95% back to 60% all while constantly 'charging'.
I've bought a replacement UPS but am going to try and get the old one working again.
From what I've read in this thread, it looks like the charging voltage isn't where it is supposed to be. I tried to get a reading from the leads from the UPS, but the unit will not turn on with the batteries disconnected. If I connect the batteries and start the unit, I get the same voltage as I did when testing the batteries themselves unloaded (24.8V at moment).
However, once it does the self-test, the capacity drops from 60 down to 3% and it starts charging up slowly again (and will stop at ~60% again).
I have some free time on Monday so I plan to start taking it apart and seeing what I can find. In the meantime, I'm hoping for some advice/comments on whether my presumptions are correct and if someone might have the schematic diagram for this particular unit.
If someone can suggest a way to measure the true output of the charging circuit, that would be great, too.
Thanks in advance.Leave a comment:

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
After replacement of the fuse, still no charging. There is an optocoupler across the charging transformer bounder that was not activating. Checking the sensing circuit, I noticed a 5W 33 ohm resistor with a bad soldier joint which I repaired.
It now does appear to be charging. The charging voltage across the two batteries in series is 25.8 volts and gradually rising, which looks good. I will post again when I am sure.Leave a comment:

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
After studying the 1500 schematics and some other examples of charging circuits online I looked at the board again. Early on in the charging circuit there is a choke. Connected to the input side is a 2 amp fuse which is open. The unit itself was probably damaged in a lightening strike so this makes sense. The VIP22A that I replaced is just before a transformer, also an induction target.
Now to get the fuse. It is an axial presentation which will be harder for me to get here. I will find a way around this minor problem. I am grateful for this forum. Although it did not present me the answers, it has helped to understand better what I need to be thinking. Understanding is helpful
I will continue posting as I progress.

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
Hi Budm,
I am currently charging the batteries, but when they were installed the voltage of the two in series was 24 volts or below. On charge it should get to be 28 volts or better. The original batteries were very bad and only produced 6 volts each after a charge. The user had no idea he needed to change them. I regularly change the batteries on my UPSes at the office every two years, so I took two recently removed still functional charged batteries for testing purposes. I am waiting for my pictures to up load to Google so I can post them.Leave a comment:

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
I have a CyberPower 1350 AVR that failed similarly. I had to replace the VIP22A. Then the unit began functioning, but it is not charging the batteries. I have been looking for schematics without success. The layout of the board is quite different from the 1500 unit. Any suggestions appreciated. I have not located the corresponding Cap to the C40.
Thanks,
Roy
What is the charging Voltage is showing right now? How old are the batteries?Leave a comment:

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
UPDATE: The second PR2200, which I bought when the first one died, died a couple of weeks ago. [Same symptoms; batteries discharging (without my noticing); power failure; after power back, unit dead.]
So, this time, I changed only C40 and charged the batteries on the car battery charger.
Started it up. No load. Charge indicator on start-up was three green lights out of four.
After a couple of hours, the fourth charge light came on. Charging circuit seems to be working again. [Thanks, budm.]
Self-test says it's OK. Will try it with some load...
Might as well wait until the next power failure to put it back into use. [It's for a computer that I never shut down.]
And, it's time to take another look at the other PR2200.Leave a comment:

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
That is charging circuit section.
They are Gate (for Q29) resistors.
R103 is 47 Ohms
R104 is 47K Ohms
They burnt up due to the MOSFET Q29 and more likely the SMPS IC U7 is also damaged when the MOSFET failed.Leave a comment:

Re: Cyberpower PR1500 won't charge battery
hello, found this forum after searching. my PP1500swt4 popped after plugging back into the wall from replacing the battery. I've found this
thermistor repair possible/ costly?
Unit works except it won't keep a charge. it charges up and a day later it's dead.

by razenxdHello,
it's not a laptop/desktop related question but I figured that someone here will have the right knowledge.
At work we use a few Aldebaran(now Softbank/United Robotics group) Nao Robots which they use some custom 6S li-on battery packs.
Nao robots tends to draw from the battery even if they are shut down, and the BMS tends to be a little aggresive, if the pack stays on a turned off robot for 3 months it's gonna lock and will refuse to charge.
Now, I have noticed a few things.
The "dead" battery, while connected to charger and NOT Charging will...-

Laptop didn't want to turn on, only charge led blinked.
I found PQB5 (mosfet high battery charger) in short, voltaje in +12.6V_BATT was 19 v ...
I changed it, changed PQB6 too and now battery charger voltage is 4.4V but battery is 3 cell, 11.25v, then is very low to charging.
Laptop turns on without battery and works fine, but with battery turns on and turns off inmediately, I suspect battery bad but I don't know... -
by KlevjetackIs there a way to externally charge a L19D3PDA battery from the laptop. I have a broken charging port on my laptop and am trying to find a way to charge the battery for it. I have been doing some research and I have found that there is a module, TP4056, that can be used to charge Li-ion batteries. It says it is used to charge single cell Li-ion batteries. The L19D3PDA battery is a three cell battery. Is it possible to use the module to charge my battery and it would just be very slow? Or would that be a bad idea. Is there a different kind of module I can use to charge my Li-ion three cell battery?...

by dclass-proHi guys I have this dell that with the battery charged it turns on correctly, but if I connect the charger I get the charging symbol but it doesn't charge the battery.
I found the shorted charger PU4401 ISL9538h that had pins 14 and 15 shorted and I replaced it. but it still doesn't charge.
I noticed 2 things:
1) without the battery connected if I connect the power supply, on the SDA and SCL pins of the battery I have 0V I measured the resistance with ground and it is very high, if I connect the battery I have 3v on the 2 lines.
2) if I try to turn it on without the battery... -
