I've seen one from 1993, and the electrolytic capacitor values were quite large which included a 1800uF 200V primary side pair.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

            i'v got one someplace too.
mine was in an external 5 1/4" drive caddy.

very well built, i think it still works even though it has the original caps.

Teapo used to be synonym to good quality back then?

Similar bung style today, except not as concentrated in the middle...

If you were building custom PCs back in the day, everything was from Taiwan. Anything else was either a Japanese import(NEC, Panasonic, etc...), or manufactured in the US (DEC, DELL, HP, etc...).

The old Taiwanese motherboards (XT, 286) were a pain, and the BIOS had to be constantly re-programmed (And you had to take the whole MB to do this). Then a Taiwanese manufacturer called Asus came along, and I used them almost exclusively, until they started using the planned obsolescence model.

Indeed and they were good quality. I used to have an old full AT 200W unit...it was a beast inside!

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                    Assuming...

                    Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue
                    by GLISIT
                    Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

KDM 480W PSU upgrade succes! (opinions?)
                    by bauto601
Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps

The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish....

                    Hi,

Back after a long hiatus with some old power supplies that need repairing. I've recently picked up a couple of 386SX systems, two 486DX systems, a SiliconGraphics Indy and an iMac G3 that either have verified leaking capacitors in their power supplies, or are likely to in the near future. For the sake of simplicity, instead of tackling all at once, I'm starting with the 386's and one of the 486's.

The 386's power supplies are Seasonic SS4040A's, with caps that are visibly leaking, and 9 replacement caps per unit are required. Most appear to be from the Rubycon...
