Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
Well, I substituted four Sanyo WG 3300uf 6.3v into it, and connected up my recalcitrant A8V Deluxe https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...958#post450958
Started up without problems, and all voltages looked OK in BIOS display
Tried various tasks for a day and a half - no issues, A8V started every time, voltages continued to look OK
Another try with the A8V this morning - wouldn't start the power supply
But power supply worked fine with another board
Pronouncing this a successful fix

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
Don't confuse the picture with WG series, which is what I intend to use, in 3300uf 6.3v, as replacements
That picture was supplied in response to a question by a different, Macau based, eBay vendor who are offering 4700uf 10v capsLeave a comment:

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
Not to mention that according to the WG datasheet, there is no 4700uF WG series part.Leave a comment:

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
yea, fake.
sanyo are a lighter green and the gold print actually looks like gold - not bronze-paint.Leave a comment:

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
That sanyo looks fake. the colours on the sleeve look wrong. Real sanyos usually are greener than thatLeave a comment:

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
Before they got so good at counterfeiting UCC, Sanyo was their staple... I'm pretty sure old stock Sanyo is now pretty much unobtainable and all you can get is Suncon branded, so anything that says Sanyo on it is most probably fake.
eBay used to have about a 50/50 ratio of new old stock to counterfeit caps. These days it's something like 90/10.Leave a comment:

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
FWIW, before researching Badcaps and making my original post, I considered a 4700uf 10v offering from Macau and asked "brand & series of capacitor in size 10 x 30 will you supply"
They replied Sanyo or OST, then sent me a picture of the Sanyo (attached)
I suspect the only difference between their Sanyo and OST is the sleeve - can't see any point asking for more pictures of top & bottomLeave a comment:

We already covered that Per. c_hegge measured ripple and it was slightly improved with Ultra-Low ESR caps (Even lower than what he is planning on using)...

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
i'd be suspicious of sanyo.
they are very expensive and hard to find.
if they seem cheap - as in the same price as pana/ruby or if they are on taobao/ebay etc they are fake.Leave a comment:

Did you source those from China?Leave a comment:

Anyway, it's going to get new Sanyo WG 3300uf 6.3v once I get my hands on themLeave a comment:

I haven't, and neither have I found any KZG or suspect HM that were re-usable.Leave a comment:

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
I would never use HM / HN/ HZ in power supplies. I think they are too low esr for that use. The lowest esr capacitor series I use for psus is Panasonic FR.Leave a comment:

Re: Antec TPII-480 replacement caps ?
Ah, in that case good HM caps would be just fine on it... But I wonder what he means by "suspect" HM... Nothing is suspect about HM up until 2004, in the sense that they will certainly fail. After that, there's some debate as to when exactly they fixed the series.
Still, would be interesting to see how long they last in a PSU as opposed to a motherboard VRM.Leave a comment:

I've used MBZ in an SL-350 before and it was fine. I think it may have been the drop in capacitance that the SP-400 wasn't happy with. Not that I would advise using KZG or suspect HMs on it, though. You might as well recap it with more Fuhjyyus.Leave a comment:

Rubycon ZLJ is also sold in 10mm:

According to c_hegge's article on polymodding, those CWT Antec units do not work properly with Ultra-Low ESR capacitors. He writes:
After the results of the first test, I had high hopes for this unit, since the performance was very similar to how it was originally. However, my hopes were short-lived, because my test PC wouldn’t even boot with the poly-modded SP-400 installed. This unit is clearly not designed to work properly with these capacitors. Let’s see if our next contender can do better.Leave a comment:

by black6hostGood day!
I have a Samson Resolv studio monitor that has no sound output. I've opened it up and found two caps that are bulging on what I believe to be the power supply section of the amplifier board. The board is marked Resolv 65A AMP V1.2. The caps in question are YUSCON, 2200uF, 35V, 85C temp and have markings of RA(P) and are 16mm x 25.5mm tall. I've attached the schematic and the caps in question are C5 and C6. I'm assuming they are low esr caps. I've tested both caps and they test low uF, nowhere near 2200uF.
I'm going to replace the caps and I'll be the first...-

by reweaseHi everyone,
There actually was a time when early SMPS and late bakelite housed electrolytic caps coexisted in high end industrial gear. A friend of mine just got himself a CNC milling machine form that time with its first set of now 41 year old caps still installed in the PSU... and it's malfunctioning.
Two of the caps have already leaked slightly onto the board. I have not desoldered or measured any so far but they should qualify for replacement.
Now I'm wondering what to put in there as a replacement. First idea was state of the art low-ESR Nippon KY,...-

by momakaI know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.
For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

by crosswindsHello,
So, pulled a motherboard out from storage, was working when put away, wont post when I took it out of storage today.
Since it was working, and it looks to be essentially time that killed it I figured its a good idea to replace the caps before digging further.
Looks to be only good quality caps on this board, so might not be the issue. But it is closing in on 20 years now so, wont hurt i guess
Its a ASUS P5VDZ-MX board.
I would really appreciate some assistance on what the best replacement caps would be for these:

by HectoPascalHallo,
i want to replace two smoothing caps from a heating controller PSU. They are probably 30 years old and it might be time to replace them.
SXE 470uF 63V 105°C (tested: 472uF 0.35Ohm) --> Nichicon VY 105°C - 463uF 0.15Ohm
SXE 470uF 25V 105°C (tested: 422uF 0.63Ohm) --> Samwha K5A 85°C - 446uF 0.10Ohm (or Panasonic RAD FC 470/25 8mm)
I couldn't find anything about 'SXE'. That's the only declaration on the caps. Edit: The top/bottom ident says Nippon CC.
Nichicon should be 'VY' series (linked).
I couldn't find anything about Samwha...-
