is less or more 12v rails better.

can someone (where are you willawake), give me the quick and the dirty on single rail vs multi rail power supplies. I see many high end supplies like zippy's have a single 40+ amp 12v rail. the 600w delta that came with my new server case is built like a beast with all chemi-con and ruby's but it has 4 12v rails. I know this is an intel spec that many manufacturers don't like because it adds expense and complexity but is it actually "BAD"?

ps. I will throw up some pics of this delta when I can. I was really impressed by the engineering and build. considering the case is top notch as well and I got it all for 270.00 US I am very happy. I had been looking at dropping 250.00 on just a zippy alone. Its an intel sc5300base chassis. thing is over two feet long and weighs sixty pounds. It has fan ducts that fit perfectly with the xeon passive sinks I have.

woah! thats one of my dream cases. post pics!!!

yeah but what is the rating on your rails, it is a server grade psu so should be very nice.

some psu they offer dual rail 12v and the amps are split between the rails so it is possible to load up one rail too much.

each rail is rated at 15 amps except one which is 18 i think(going off my memory right now). I figured the overload issue was the only downside. the way the cables are cut it forces you to send 1/3 to the 5.25 bay and 2/3 to the 3.5 bays so as to distribute the load right.

I will definately post pics of the case and the dissassembled power supply. I just need to get some damn sata drives to make a raid 5 with the 3ware card I have and this year long quest for a fat file and dns server will be done. (it helped that I finally landed my first full time job. YAY).

I'll get some closeups of the intel se7501br2 motherboard that I picked up cheap on ebay too. It is,get this, pure purple jacket oscons and a few non jacketed ones. Not a single lytic on the whole thing. I saw it on ebay right after I got a tyan i7501 for 29.99 on ebay. the intel was over a hundred, but it was new and I saw all those glowing oscons and I had to get it. I damn near creamed my pants when I pulled it out of its retail box. Anyway it has been running two instances of prime 95 in a beater case with an old ide drive and not the best cooling for a month now. I'm ready to sign off on it and get it in the server chassis.
