Please keep in mind this PSU is to power a ~1999-vintage i440BX mobo with ISA sound card ...

Sure, I count on you repairing it. You don't want to let there shorted caps to set your balls on fire, right?

I just mean -5V and -12V could be relevant to this ancient hardware.

Well, pull out the isa card and see if the pins for -5v and -12v go somewhere on the sound card.

          Pinout is this : http://pinouts.ru/Slots/ISA_pinout.shtml

          B5 -5VDC -5 VDC
          B7 -12VDC -12 VDC

B is the pins on the back side, the one that's usually without components. B1 is the pin closest to the back of pc.

Just because the slot has provisions for it, doesn't mean the card actually has to use them.

If you want just put a 100uF or better capacitor on that -5v line ... use 10v rated capacitor or higher. There's really not that much current that you HAVE to use 470uF.

If i were to go with one of those two, i'd use the Koshin.

Choyo is so bad that you should trash them.....

Koshin is also too bad.... Maybe scavenge caps from somewhere else and use them there?

It looks like one lead was torn out of one of the Choyo caps.

Try to find some better caps. If you find a 10V or 6.3V cap, you should be able to use it for -5V.

                    IT'S ALIVE!

Rotated the -5V Ruby 180 degrees, planted back a Koshin for -12V ...

... and The Thing breaths! No thermobaric explosions, no dimensional rifts!

And with a couple fans plugged to the Molex sucking some +12V I get these pretty coherent voltage readings :

                    +12V: 11.80
                    +5V: 5.11
                    +3.3V: 3.32
                    -12V: -11.45
                    -5V: -4.77

That wire above the rectifier heatsink with so much uninsulated copper would worry me, don't like it at all.

Yeah, it's probably ok, you close the case and the wire doesn't move anywhere, and the rectifier is still passivated glass, insulated, so not much concern... these things just irk me.

Other than that, really overkill but somewhat nice at the same time. Good job!

I would recommed putting a grille on the outward facing fan. Turning the supply off by blindly reaching behind for the power switch could prove startling.

I think you are right, I must insulate that wire better.

The front fan definitely needs a grille, as it could catch some internal PC wiring. But the exhaust one can live without, and we regain a bit of volumetric efficiency. PC fans aren't really dangerous, I stop them routinely with my fingertips when testing for noise sources.

I accidentally touched one a week ago and broke a fan blade.. Better safe than sorry.

I would be more worried about breaking your fingers You can replace fan, but finger… But I usually don't add any grill, ppl are told to not touch that area at all
