No name/brand diode split in half/exploded cap

This is literally a no name/brand power supply. I got this power supply as "it should work". Good thing I check everything before I use it.

Notice the blown in half diode and 47uF 50V cap that unravelled itself.

I might repair it just to learn something, but the only parts I'll save are the fan screws and maybe a few resistors.

    All caps are JEE brand.

It's a Sun Pro. I can see some heat damage on the PCB around that area, although it may still be repairable
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Does anyone know where to get an ID of CSA markings? It's sort of the equivalent of the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) marking. UL has an online database, I couldn't find anything of the sort for CSA.

No results for 181613 so it's probably faked.

Seen this platform before, i have one lying around somewhere. It's fairly solid if you put in good caps and good secondary diodes, it'll do 400W as the transformer and inductor are big enough. Just check that the primary transistors are 13009s.

            I see 13007-2 (x2) and 10401 (with a F symbol - probably Fairchild).

400W is 200W more than I will ever need for my purposes.

Re: No name/brand diode split in half/exploded cap

13007s will give about 300W given that the output diodes are adequate (efficiency is kept high). Use at least 30A rectifiers on all rails and it should do well.

Either that or the directory is incomplete. I couldn't find 224353 (My PSU).

                  Confirmed.
The 7700 on the transformers gives it away.

I have a Raidmax RX-380K (Sun Pro KY-480ATX) that looks almost exactly the same as yours but with even more undersized components. Many of the caps in it are cooked, which shouldn't be surprising as there's heat damage on almost the entire area of the PCB. Blame the tinfoil heatsinks for that.
IMO this PSU is a complete piece of junk not worth fixing. That aside, mine does have a few resistors and coils in it that may come handy for other PSU repairs, so I'm still keeping it. At least yours has input filtering.

By the way, it looks like the 5vsb circuit committed suicide in yours. Probably went overvoltage and that's why you see that small exploded cap.

Re: No name/brand diode split in half/exploded cap

On the split rectifier are the letters "FR" for Fast Rectifier, and it appears to be a 1A unit, and hopefully, the number at the end (e.g. 107) is still readable.
If this number cannot be read, you can safely use a FR107.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

I have a logitech brand psu for fiddling around with electronics when I need a higher current. It seems to have a similar board, I will go take a look at what the model of it is, incase you need me to read parts

Ok it appears that mine has a smaller primary heatsink on it, but its rated for "500w"

Anyways, the 5vsb circuit looks to be identical, so I will take a look at it and reply what stuff I find.

Ok, the diode that blew up is actually a FR107 on mine. Also note that in the 4th picture he gave us, the 100 ohm resistor next to the middle transformer is toasted a bit.

Two interesting things are, one, his psu has two 470uF input caps when mine has two 680uF ones. Second, his bridge rectifier is made of an assortment of diodes, mine is just 4 of the same type(large barrel).

In that case it's a keerda built unit. This one is a sunpro. They use similar designs, as do most small, cheap chinese manufacturers.
