Looks pretty nice on the inside. Those are some big heatsinks. I would just recap it if you can. It is complete, with a good sized transformer and full input filter.

What were the last few power supplies in your computer? Were they replaced because you needed more power or did they fail?

That Dynex is nice, a good recap will ensure it will be reliable. The other power supply you recently bought can either be returned or used as a backup PSU, it's your choice.

The first one never faild the second one was the reason i had to get this Dynex i came home one day and the system was off andd when i tried to turn it on i just kept hearing a sparking sound and could see one when i openend up the case and i had to replace it thats why i got this one i think it cost me more then 100$ i dont remmeber what the first 2 were for brands but i think they were probley generics.

Not necessarily - Huntkey's pretty big. Could be another platform entirely. But from looking at the label, I'd say it's overrated like the rest of the Huntkeys.

Its a lot easier than you may think with a power supply. The pcb is a single layer (only some high end psu's have more than single layer pcb's), and its a lot harder to ruin the traces because they are huge and they are made of solder. The only thing you have to worry about is the heat of your soldering iron, as those huge traces can suck away the heat so you have to hold it there longer.

I'd say "high power" more than "high end." You get enough power flowing, and you need a dual layer PCB no matter what name it goes by. Topower's a good example... most of their high power units are a far cry from what I'd call high end

Soldering on a power supply is much easier than on a motherboard for the reason that 370forlife said before.

If you have a junk power supply, try practice some soldering on that.

Also I think it might be more difficult to do a recap on that Dynex PSU, it's so cramped inside that there would be little room for removing and installing new capacitors.

Those are HEC built units. Actually a 300W inside of it, but it will do fine for what you are using it for.

I have that Thermaltake too, it's powering an older AMD Duron 1.4GHz (5v-based system). 12v rail is a bit high, but voltages are pretty solid otherwise.
Capacitors are a mix of Teapo/Su'scon for the secondary side and Teapo or CapXon for the primary side. Not exactly great, but not bad either. Should last at least until the warranty expires.
How much did you get yours for? Mine was $40 from Micro Center, but after the rebates it was $25.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                            Assuming...

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

                                            Hello Everybody,

Trying to repair a power supply from a Russound CA4 Multizone Controller (picture attached)

Russound no longer supports it but were kind enough to provide a schematic of the power supply (pdf attached).

The outputs marked 12v and 20v are all measuring only 1v.

The board is clicking, which I think means it is in something called hiccup mode when the flyback transformers switches because of an internal problem or something else on the board Overloading it.

The capacitors physically look clean (no bludgesor leaks) and...

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
                                            by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...
