Powering it up must have changed the contents.

Do I need to do something with the main BIOS as well to remove the BIOS password?

Thanks, but that did not work either. I wrote that to the chip and then read it back and compared them - they match. I turned on the machine and got a solid caps lock for maybe 45 seconds. It then turned off. I turned it on again and got the same 7 flashes of capslock & numlock.

Thank you. Okay, you are saying that the very first file I uploaded (8MB) was corrupted. I can accept that, but the system was working with it. It just had a BIOS password.

My question now is what 8MB file should I use in conjunction with this 16MB file that you just gave me?

Yes, I did flash it back and it worked. But it still had the password, of course. I believe I mentioned all that in my previous posts.

Any update? Should I try the file you provided? If so, which 8MB should I use in conjunction with it?

I am tempted to just put it back the way it was and use the machine with a locked BIOS. I was able to install windows if I start the installation in another computer.

Okay - I just flashed that file back and the machine is working ... again. It still has a BIOS password of course. Windows still works. I will just leave it like that. Life is too short for this!

I wanted to try the 16MB BIOS that you kindly provided me with, but you would not tell what to do with the "corrupted" 8MB BIOS.

                        Please try this combo.
                        Flash both.

Well, that worked perfectly. Password is gone and there were no security errors. Also, I was able to do a BIOS Update. Any chance you could give a brief explanation of your magic? Maybe I can learn something for the next time. Thanks again for all your help.

                            by zenius
Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

                            by Nopslide
Hello everyone, I come here to tell you my problem regarding the power-on password. It is not a bios reset demand, and i can't have any access to windows. This is the bios and power-on password that is blocking all other things.

My Omen 15-dh0052nf purchased second-hand was configured with the bios password upon purchase (very simple password :P ).

Having decided to sell it in order to get something more powerful, I reset all BIOS settings and set a blank administrator password. But the power-on password cannot be changed to a blank one so I let the actual password set....

                            Hi guys,

                            BIOS Corruption - Cause
So I managed to corrupt my machine by installing linux and enrolling custom secure boot keys. I did choose to enroll the Microsoft keys as well, to prevent any potential bricking due to 3rd party drivers from HP being signed with those keys.
After doing that, and rebooting(it did boot, powerLED, fanspin etc.), the laptop did not give any video output on the LCD or video connectors. I think I was able to get in BIOS and trigger the beeper by pressing ESC....

                            Hello
I removed the BIOS password thanks to the help of one of the friends of this forum.
