Thank you for the quick response and help. Unfortunately, that did not work. It gave me different symptoms - just powers on and off repeatedly. No fan, caps lock, num lock or escape lights. So I flashed the original backups back to the chips and did a read and compare. Now I have the same symptoms as the files you provided me with.
I think you may be right about cpu problem. The sequence of events as described to me that led up to this were bizarre. I was told that he shut it down one day and the next time he powered it up, he was asked for bitlocker key. He went to his account...

I have the same problem. How do you deal with encrypted DMI?...Leave a comment:

I just unpacked an Insyde bios with innoextract and got a 24MB bin file instead of an fd file. Do I use the same procedure? I can see the word BIOSIMG in the file....Leave a comment:

Would someone be kind enough to take a look at my BIOS? Computer has the usual problem of no display with caps + esc + num lock lights. I have enclosed both files. I extracted the one from lenovo, but could not proceed from there. Ended up with DOSFLV34_QS.bin....Leave a comment:

Well, that worked perfectly. Password is gone and there were no security errors. Also, I was able to do a BIOS Update. Any chance you could give a brief explanation of your magic? Maybe I can learn something for the next time. Thanks again for all your help....Leave a comment:

Okay - I just flashed that file back and the machine is working ... again. It still has a BIOS password of course. Windows still works. I will just leave it like that. Life is too short for this!

I wanted to try the 16MB BIOS that you kindly provided me with, but you would not tell what to do with the "corrupted" 8MB BIOS....Leave a comment:

Any update? Should I try the file you provided? If so, which 8MB should I use in conjunction with it?

I am tempted to just put it back the way it was and use the machine with a locked BIOS. I was able to install windows if I start the installation in another computer.Leave a comment:

Yes, I did flash it back and it worked. But it still had the password, of course. I believe I mentioned all that in my previous posts.Leave a comment:

Thank you. Okay, you are saying that the very first file I uploaded (8MB) was corrupted. I can accept that, but the system was working with it. It just had a BIOS password.

My question now is what 8MB file should I use in conjunction with this 16MB file that you just gave me?Leave a comment:

Ok - Here it is. I read it three times and did comparison....Leave a comment:

Thanks, but that did not work either. I wrote that to the chip and then read it back and compared them - they match. I turned on the machine and got a solid caps lock for maybe 45 seconds. It then turned off. I turned it on again and got the same 7 flashes of capslock & numlock....Leave a comment:

OK - I double checked again and I did not see any resistors missing. So, I erased the chip and programmed my original backup. Now the machine is back to normal operation with a BIOS password. So, obviously nothing wrong with my soldering. Also, I did a read on the "unlocked BIOS" before erasing it and compared it to the read that I had taken just after writing the "unlocked BIOS" and found they are now different. Powering it up must have changed the contents.

Do I need to do something with the main BIOS as well to remove the BIOS password?Leave a comment:

Thank you for that. I did check my solder and it is fine. I did not even remove the chip as there are solder pads all around it. I don't see any bridges or missing connections. The resistors all seem to be intact. I even did a read after the write and compared them with no issues. Are there any other suggestions?...Leave a comment:

Do I need to do this?

 1) open Original File with HP DMI Editor to GET DMI Data
 2) Press OK to patch your dump
 3) flash patched File
 4) first boot will delay few Minutes
 5) Very Important Step go to Bios and reset to factory default
 (FIRST MAIN PAGE TAB)
 6) restart and eneter bios
 7)password cleared successfully
 8) Write Original DMI DATA BackLeave a comment:
