For a dell latitude 5420 what is the best way to r/w to the BIOS chip since it does not seem like a traditional clip can do the job. Should I sand down the ends of the clip so the metal can touch or is there some other method (preferably without unsoldering) that can allow me to r/w to the chip. I have a CH341A programmer and clip but the BIOS chip (windbond 25R256JVEN) seems to be surface installed.

The bios chip must be unsoldered from the board before writing or reading..
do not use the clip, you may have errors..if you do not have anything to unsolder it with,
solder wires between the programmer and the bios chip..

You can also use an adapter for these chips.

Many thanks for this great little tool : thanks to this , I bought my first ever T48 EEPROM programmer, and managed to re-program my Dell Latitude 7400 ( in-circuit , as a bonus! ) and get it into Manufacturing mode to remove the system password. Very pleased with myself .. thanks again

I keep getting the error of " Hex Pattern Not Found" Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I am using the Xgecu T48 Pro with the program Xgpro. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I am also using a BIOs clip. Not sure if that information is relevant

I just wanted to say thank you for this patcher. It worked perfectly after clipping and dumping the BIOS of a Dell Optiplex 3000 micro (12th gen) with NeoProgrammer which was the first one I could find that said it had support for the chip. After hashing a few dumps to make sure they were coming out identical, I patched one, wrote it back, and then the device booted into factory mode and let me set the service tag. Importantly the admin password was no longer present.

I'm getting the same if you have a solution would be great would prefer not to have to fix this if someone else has already done it.

The 5300 has a single 32MB chip or it`s split across two chips 8 + 16MB .Look for the 8MB chip ,patch that.

In the 3000 micro case it seemed to be a Macronix MX25L12872F which was right by the battery on the board. Other than having to fiddle with the clip a couple times to get it on solidly it worked well.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums and just needed some help on an Optiplex 7090 8FC8.

I've tried various patchers and keep getting:

Searching for Intel signature...
Intel signature found at offset 0x10
Checking for first pattern...
Almost done! Checking second pattern...
Patching failed: No patterns found

I keep getting no patterns found, but I dumped my rom with chipsec_util spi dump and chipsec_util spi read after signing the helper kernel driver to get chipsec fully running.

8FC8 seems highly locked down, but there has to be a process for in system programming, I believe. I can flash the BIOS region and I have a TON of info and data on the system, flash, regions and even extracted parts of the firmware.

Here is the method I used to do all this on the system that is locked:

Install Ubuntu on an unlocked system that has secure boot enabled and put it in the locked system once installed and bootable.

Boot Ubuntu, update, upgrade, install various tools and utilities as well as build-essentials.

Install and setup chipsec, creating the kernel helper module.

Create a key for signing and register it, reboot, enroll MOK and boot back to Ubuntu.

Sign the kernel module and install it.

Run chipsec and see how secure 8FC8 actually is for yourself.

Attack S3 Boot Scripts to gain SMI/SMM write permission and SPI write access?

What are the patterns the patchers are looking for?

I'm able to write to BIOS region, but need to know where to clear the password. I don't have access to write to ME or other regions through internal in-system programming, though.
