Laptop only boots after bios reset?

Got a lappy off ebay that needed the charging port resoldering.

Did that and it worked fine, but upon shutting down the only way to boot it back up is to remove the battery, press power button, put battery back in and then press power button again and it will boot fine.

When I got it I put a dual core cpu in it, this was before the charger arrived so I didnt test it before with the original cpu in it. Could this cause it?

It also had vista installed but I put windows 7 on it instead, again, I didnt test it before the charger arrived. Could the wrong os cause it?

I have never come accross the 2 above changes causing problems like this before so any help would be great.

Mate why you are moving forward with guess work and not by making volt measurements to the points that mater ?

Hi Kiriakos GR perhaps gilly does not have a great experience of this laptop.
Perhaps you can assist by telling him where to test and what result he should expect?

Gilly does it charge the battery? does it work ok with only the battery?
does it work with only the charger, or is it the type that has to have a battery in.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

I don't have the laptop to hand until tomorrow.

the laptop works great when switched on. it works on battery and on ac. it charges the battery fine too. the only problem occurs when I shut it down, I have to reset the bios before it will switch on again.

I will tinker tomorrow when I have it in my possession.

One of the reasons that BIOS can hang on boot its due empty BIOS battery,
check this too, or better replace it immediately with a new.

Try switching the mb(with cmos battery installed) directly from kbc switching pin. Does it turns on this way??

Asus BIOS How To Reset To Default Settings?
                    by YG007
Hello... Where do I start. I have 2 questions/scenarios that might bring this laptop back to life, so here it goes!

I have this laptop (Asus UX52VS) where I was flashing the BIOS to it and it froze during the process. I didn't have a reliable BIOS chip programmer at the time (It was a CH341A USB Programmer from Amazon where it took hours just to get the clamp on the chip and then every time I read, it gave me different results/corruption, and never would pass the verify test as no 2 reads were the same data), so I brought it to a shop. They had it for almost 2 months, but during...

                    by llek100
Hello, sorry for the long post, I just wanted to include any details that might help.

A bit of backstory - I currently have 5 of these MiniPCs - I got them for very cheap from Ebay. All of these PCs are BIOS administrator password locked without their drives.
I also got a G3 large tower, that I could reset the password of fine just using a header and a button on the motherboard.
So I thought that I could do the same with the G4 MiniPCs, oh how wrong I was.
First of all, I stumbled upon a tutorial, that apparently showed a BIOS password reset procedure - where I basically...

                    ASUS TP500LA BIOS request/repair/merge?
                    by jbonavita
Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
                    Some issues
                    A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

                    Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...

Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 (serial number: MP2BFZEF) bios request
                    by Wahaz
                    Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....
