    Minimum ram amount

Weird one here, got in a HP G6 350 i5 for repair as it would turn on and cut off after 5 seconds.

Turns out the 4GB ddr3 module had shorted.

Interestingly, this i5 machine won't recognise any DDR3 under 4GB. I have loads of 2GB modules but no 4's kicking about.

    Anyone encountered this?

I've been out of this game for ages now and haven't worked on a laptop since DDR2 was mainstream, are DDR3L machines backwards compatible with DDR3 modules?

The specs for that laptop are for DDR3 RAM.

Any ideas why it requires a 4gb module then? 2 x 2gb won't make it boot.

            Is it 1333MHz ?
I've seen HPs be a bit picky on memory in the past.

My apologies, this is a hp G1 not G6.

The 4gb module in there is 12800 and all the ram I have is 10600, so that could be it.

Yes and as above is DDR3L not DDR3, with DDR3L running at a lower voltage than DDR3.

Honestly these days expect anything from HP and Lenovo

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
                      by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

                      Ram DDR3 to DDR3L
                      by jasko_jacker
I have a lot of asus motherboard with ddr3l ram onboard and various ram stick ddr3 1.5v .
I think there should be no problem in replacing the ddr3 chips with the ddr3l ones.
What function does the chip have that I see welded on the dual rank ram?
                      For example 34ch1b2dz

Ram Modules with undderfill - tricks for desoldering
                      by ongobongo
I'm working on another Lenovo E14 gen 2 AMD here which has a ton of errors with the factory soldered DDR4 ram chips. I do have a donor board here from which I'd like to use the modules and swap them. Unfortunately, the modules are glued down with underfill, which i have never worked with before.
I tried with a lot of heat on the donor board but the modules won't come loose.
Are there any hint or tricks when it comes to dealing with underfilled chips/ic that could help here
                      Thanks

Zotac GTX 1080 8GB / No video / Error reported on all memory modules!
                      by gabrielA7
                      Hi guys!!

I have this video card on my bench, it turns on and the screen goes black!

I used MATS but it showed an error in all memory modules, when writing!

I once got a 1060 with the same symptom, all modules were defective, I rebaled the GPU and it stayed the same.

Remember that I have all the debts ok, 1.35 Vram and such!

Could the problem really be in the GPU?

                      Could it be the BIOS?

                      Thank you in advance!

Hi, last month i bought a broken pc that i tought i can fix for myself but it turned out to be time consuming. The pc turn on and shows no display and beeps 5 times and restarts again and again, i think it s the motherboard because i tested/replaced all the parts except the motherboard. The pc was used mostly for light gaming and i think it wasnt overclocked or something. I tried all the basic fixes(cleaning the ram slots, removing the cmos battery, reseat the GPU/CPU/RAM). I think the last thing to do is to replace or repair the mobo but i prefer to try to repair because i don t want to spent...
