    Macbook Air M1 a2337 - 820-02016

I'm working on Macbook air a2337

    It's stuck on 5V.

    I've replaced both CD3217B12 IC's and U8100

    When i connect USB-C ampmeter i'm getting 5V 0.01 - 0.4a and restart ampmeter and again ....

I tried to connect to another mac and i'm not able to get it to DFU.

history is that this macbook just died randomly and owner was not able to start it again.

    PPBUS_AON is 12.3V
    i'm missing PP5V_S2 - 0V

According to repair wiki i've checked https://repair.wiki/w/MacBook_Air_A2...a_at_5V_repair

I can see there is heatspot at U0500.

Any idea how to proceed ? I don't have another donor board (a2337) but i have 2x a2338 (macbook pro) they i hope have lot of same components.

Remove all power. Meter in resistance mode. What is the exact resistance to ground of PP5V_S2? Being 5v - could be related to a USB VBUS failure.

What is the voltage to ground of P5VS2_EN? This is the enable signal for the same power rail.

PP5V_S2 - resistance to ground 5M(mega) ohms and falling down

P5VS2_EN - resistance to ground is OL

Do you have a voltage on P5VS2_EN ?

yes when power is connected and testing on test point next to RC333 there is 1.8V

          I just noticed strange thing.

When power is connected to bottom (DFU port) here it's restarting ampmeter and here I have 1.8V on PP5S2_EN
but when I connect power to the other port there is 0V on PP5S2_EN and ampmeter is not restarting

When there is an ENABLE signal to this regulator, do you see a voltage @ PP5V_S2? If not, suggest to replace UC300 which may be defective.

Replace with the exact same part (Aliexpress):

Is it not possible that one CD3217 is defective ? as one port it restarting ampmeter (there is 1,8V on PP5S2_EN) and second port is stable 5V (not restarting ampmeter) but here i have 0V on PP5S2_EN ?

Or this can be related to UC300 ?

i tried to replace UC300 from a2338 but it's behaving same (one port restarting, other stable both 5V)

Replace the port controller that is power cycling:

I tried to replace CD3217 3x and it's still doing the same (restarting) I also replaced U0500 as it's the only thing pulsing but also it's still the same and there is still hotspot on U0500

I've checked diode mode on U0500 and they're all looking ok

                    PP1V8_AWAKE - 0.319
                    I2C_SEEPROM_SCL - 0.323
                    I2C_SEEPROM_SDA - 0.323
                    P1V25_AWAKE_IO - 0.263

Is it possible that M1 is dead ?

Are you able to charge battery manually and power it up with battery alone? Just to see if it works? Also do physical inspection of the port, pull it out to see if there is any corrosion on pins? Last 2 cases were just that.

MacBook Air A2337 (820-02016) USB-C Port Issue – Only Works in One Orientation (CC Line Problem?)
                            by rounin
                            Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

                            🛠 Original Issue
                            The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

                            Hello everyone,

About me, my goal and the equipment I (don't) have:
I am brand new to this forum, and I am eager to learn about repairing laptops. I have an engineer background although I haven't done electronics for a while. I have watched several Youtube videos in the last two months, trying to understand how to diagnose a faulty motherboard. I have a USB-C Amp meter and a classic multi meter. No DC Power Supply to inject voltage, no soldering iron to replace components.

About my issue and my goal:
A friend of mine has a MacBook Air M1 A2337 that does not...

Hey! As the title says. i don't know if this is the right place to ask but i need to get trusted USB C Controllers (CD3217-CD3215) For macs and dont know where to get them. i dont know if you guys know where is a good place to get it.

The thing is that i have a Macbook air A2337 M1 and i dont have a donnor board to get the CD3217. So i try the CD3217 from a A2141 Board and at first, whitout his eprom it does not convert 5v to 20v. then i put the original CD3217 eprom from the A2141 and then the macbook A2337 conver the 5v to 20v but still not turning on. i guess that the CD3217 is...

Apple Macbook Air M1 A2337 Trackpad problem
                            by Skrndelj
                            Hello all,

                            I am repairing a Macbook A2337 and i have a problem
The Macbook is stuck in restore as someone before me tried a DFU restore and bricked the device, now i can't do a restore as AC2 throws error 1 which is related to the trackpad.
When i turn on the device i get the trackpad click for a few moments and then nothing, i tried 7 trackpads and 7 trackpad flats, i know all 7 are functioning okay, especially one as i use it for testing and DFU restore.
I inspected the whole board and everything seems fine.
Can anyone help me as i didn't fiddle with trackpad...
