The ground are indeed the ground wires.
The reds will be the power wires to supply the ~19v to the logic board.
The brown wire will be the PS_ID (power supply ID) communication line and will mate with the needle like center pin inside the DC jack. This is a 1-wire interface line used by the EC to gauge if the power adapter is suitable to power the motherboard. -
Thank you. I can't see where it should solder onto on the back of the jack. There are only 3 points - the 2 grounds and the 19v.Comment

Do you have a multimeter?
Take some measurements where are the front connections on these backside connections.

by BowlineMy question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?
Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?
My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell... -
by TruneHi all,
I am hoping someone may be able to help me.
I have a Dell Inspiron which originally had a faulty DC port, where the centre plastic had broke. The DC port was replaced with a new one, which then resulted in the battery not charging, the laptop running slow and a message stating that the AC Adapter was not of the correct type. In the bios it would show it as unknown.
The assumption was made that the AC Adapter must have also got damaged during whatever broke the DC port, so a genuine Dell replacement was attempted. Same issue, same message. Since then,... -
by master3112I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:
Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.
The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...-

by harpI thinking to modify some ATX ver 1 supply, and wonder what if I connect 10k pot on 12v and center tap on brown wire? What range of 3.3v correction can to expect, or something will blow up if I close to rails, leave narrow 3.3v range?
It is KA7500B ic, but 3v3 sense is connected to TL431, I am not sure there is any connection between. -
Hi all. Trying to troubleshoot issues with the Dell Laptop power supply (a lot of info here). Now I am waiting for a DC power Jack, as there is a loose contact. Want to check if the ID line of the adapter works - I have given abt 3.2 V to this line through the voltage divider, but can't see any signal on the oscilloscope. Same with the 100500% working AC adapter as well. How to initiate 1-Wire protocol transmission? As I understand, the circuit in the AC adapter should send a package for a while as soon as the supply comes to the SPID line. How to initiate this transmission correctly without...
