    Dell DC Brown wire

There are 3 pins on the back of this DC jack. Centre both left and right edges are the grounds for the black wires and a centre bottom is for the red wire. Where does the brown wire solder to? Click image for larger version

The ground are indeed the ground wires.
The reds will be the power wires to supply the ~19v to the logic board.
The brown wire will be the PS_ID (power supply ID) communication line and will mate with the needle like center pin inside the DC jack. This is a 1-wire interface line used by the EC to gauge if the power adapter is suitable to power the motherboard.

Thank you. I can't see where it should solder onto on the back of the jack. There are only 3 points - the 2 grounds and the 19v.

Why do you think that there are 2 grounds?
        Do you have a multimeter?
Take some measurements where are the front connections on these backside connections.
