  • Re: Dell Inspiron 3505: centre pin issue, now full DC issue

    Yes, it appears that way.
Is it normal for it to be super hot? Would this normally stop the AC adapter working completely?

  • Re: Dell Inspiron 3505: centre pin issue, now full DC issue

Thank you, I’ll have a look at that one, and see if I can find a starting point.

Does anyone have any tips on where to start given the schematic?

SMDFlee, in the interest of learning, how do you identify that the board is a good starting point? Internal knowledge or is there some identification method which provides this.

  • Dell Inspiron 3505: centre pin issue, now full DC issue

    Hi all,

I am hoping someone may be able to help me.

I have a Dell Inspiron which originally had a faulty DC port, where the centre plastic had broke. The DC port was replaced with a new one, which then resulted in the battery not charging, the laptop running slow and a message stating that the AC Adapter was not of the correct type. In the bios it would show it as unknown.
The assumption was made that the AC Adapter must have also got damaged during whatever broke the DC port, so a genuine Dell replacement was attempted. Same issue, same message. Since then,...

    Dell Inspiron 3505 Schematics

    Hello,

Does anyone have the schematics for a Dell Inspiron 3505?
    Board ID is
    GDI53 LA-K001P Rev 1.0 (a00)

    Thanks!

  • Re: LG 50PK590 power fault and vertical line

    You may be right.
Although not ideal I located which ribbon was driving the vertical section of the panel and managed to connect it to a different x-driver. Unfortunately due to what I was able to display on the screen it was unable to be 100% sure but it did appear the line was no longer present.

This would imply that it's either the centre X board or the controller. No way of verifying either without spares really.

I have given the connector on the problematic ribbon a clean and will try that tomorrow...

  • Re: LG 50PK590 power fault and vertical line

    Thanks for the reply.

After taking the pics I reattached the board and the tv is staying on again at the moment (not particularly blizzard, it's been acting this way anyway).
The line is still there, and it's staying on.

As a coincidence I did some trial and error to try and find where huge fault may lie and I believe as it's a single pixel vertical line (green) in the centre it is X related or control board?

    I've tried reseating connections etc.

    When it plays up turning...

  • LG 50PK590 power fault and vertical line

    Hi guys,

    Hoping you can help.

The plasma initially had a vertical line down the middle of the screen but around the same time it also started to develop a problem with powering on. It does power on sometimes, but others not... It clicks then clicks off again shortly after.

I have looked on the forum etc and found posts about the resistors in the top right of the board (eay60968801) and noticed repair kits on eBay also.
However repair kits seem to mention 2 resistors of 22ohms however this board is 3 resistors of 10 ohms. I have checked all three...

    Yeah I saw that today!
But their site is broken and won't let me search resistors! Will check again tomorrow.

Went in a tv repair shop today to try and get one but only had 0.47ohm, he thought it was a 1watt.

So just find one with similar dimensions?
I did test the zenerdiodes previously and some behaved as expected and others didn't, imagine this is because of being on circuit again but don't fancy testing them off circuit.

Will double check diode 101 but I believe it was ok.

I took it off the board and tested the smd pads, the same readings occurred without the smd capacitor.

I think the smd capacitor is now destroyed by me too now, oops. Think I'm probably doomed now as cant find schematic for board and no way of finding out its rating to replace.

C107 seems like a short to me.
    It's a SMD.

Gives constant continuity both ways reading of 008.
With multimeter set to 200ohms it reads 5.9 both ways.

Not sure if I'm testing these correctly though. This cap is right near the smps chip tho.

Diode is okay out of circuit.

That's correct. To be fair your right my multi meter is cheap and not quality like fluke.

But the bands are orange white silver gold green.
It's slightly shorter, maybe my original was 2w.

I'm going to check the diode out of circuit in a while.

I'm not sure how to check the smps chip, visibility it's okay. But it's a different model now so I may be able to find a guide on how to check it, couldn't find anything for the old one as I think it was a LG one,

  • Re: Benq fp71g+ dead. No light no signs. Capacitors look alright

This is the advice I got first off on mine.

Please be very careful doing the tests with power connected though, very careful and only if you are confident.

    Selldoor:
When you measure anything you need to tell us what result you got. Anyway first can you test the voltage on the big cap.
CAREFULLY. as this is high voltage. Put your meter on 600vdc and put black probe on
negative leg and red on positive.

As a starter for things to test this is good - start at...

R122 and r105 have silvery marks on top where others don't? They are near area of spark.
R105 reads 510 on the top, one way measures 2.88mohms, reverse reads -1.83
R122 reads not sure, one way measures 3.4mohms, reverse reads -2mohms.
C104 c106 smds look very white compared to other ones or is this normal?

May have found something, d102 gives readings both ways, 1170. Reverse reads 549.
I guess I should check that off circuit?

    Yeah can get a pic.

What about the fact the resistor wasn't the same value as old one, does that not matter?

The spark could have just been the resistor I suppose, it was same area but resistor body was on underside obviously.

Although the fact exactly the same component blew after replacing the smps I guess there's a big issue elsewhere.

I'm not sure my soldering can be called handy work, I think it's okay though....

  • Re: Microsoft Product Activation Rant

Changing ram doesn't result in having to reactive.
However it can cause it if you have made another change within a certain time frame, it uses a algorithm to decide if the changes were significant enough to look like a possible change of major hardware.

Have you done any tests on fuses etc?

Just copying advice I was given but first of all test fuses.

The guys here will need a clearer picture so they can read the white writing also.

The board looks really odd about the ground cable, it looks warped, or it that just the pic?

  • Re: LG W2442PA-BF wont power on.

MOSFET and two fuses are fine. No short on metal case board goes in upside down.

    Diodes
    D105 - 544 - 0.870m ohms
    D104 - 541 - 0.800m ohms
    D107 - 538 - 0.784m ohms
    D106 - 537 - 0.744m ohms

Resistor pads do you mean with resistor removed? I checked that before fitting new and no short. With resistor in and blown it shows momentary short with continuity test.

That's a shame, replaced resistor and MOSFET and still no luck.
So replaced SMPS and tried again, resistor blew up again.
Also saw spark from base of board, but can't see any other damage. Whether the spark came through from resistor not sure.

Not sure where to go from here.
