    Dell PA-3E Dim LED

I have a Dell PA-3E power brick that the LED light on the laptop plug is dim on. The brick otherwise works (charged and powered a Latitude D630 no sweat).

Where should I look? Bad cable? Known problem?

do you mean the laptop socket?
i'v never seen one on the charger plug.

maybe it's just a failing led if the laptop runs & charges.
it happens - it's rare, but it used to be pretty common.

Also it might be that the caps are going bad in the charger..

then maybe the old "broken cable at the brick" problem?

Perhaps. Looks like the old hammer and utility knife blade trick is in order.

Same thing happened to mine, Dell overdrive the LED to make it bright but it last far less time than it should.

                  Re: Dell PA-3E Dim LED

Yup. Cracked it open, minus some lelon-ish caps on the secondary, I didn't see any issues. given that only 3 wires go to the cable, the LED(s) and resistor are internal to the plug.

Noted on the overdrive... I may save this to power a port replicator or something. I was going to use it with my E5530 I just bought w/o AC adapter, but I can just one of my shrinking stash of PA-10 bricks.

                    Hi,

Could someone help trying to unlock this BIOS, seems that Dell have changed the layout of new Dell Pro 8FC8 bioses from checking HXD - 4000 bits do not need changing, only 2000. However after FF the section starting from '01000' upto 2000 bits and then soldering the chip back it seems that the microchip on the motherboard is recovering the bios back to original settings after first boot. Has anyone found a way to crack this extra layer of security Dell have implemented? Seems both HP and Dell have upped bios security to match Lenovo by implementing extra measures on a separate...

Fried capacitor on Dell-5520. Guilty as charged.
                    by Lapsmith
While installing new SSD's in my new to me Dell 5520 laptop, I dropped a screw which sparked and fried a capacitor. Yes, I know I should have disconnecte the battery first Doh!😡. The laptop runs fine, but I want to replace the capacitor asap. I ordered and received the replacement (10uF, 25V 0603). Since I also managed to burn up one of the pads it was soldered to, my main question is whether it is okay to solder this capacitor on top of another capacitor (same size, same function in circuit). Specifically, PC4428 is bad and no way to easily solder to the board. I would like to solder it piggy...

                    by master3112
I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...

Some models have a choice of 2 different firmwares, it depends on the dell SKU.
