Re: How to replace nec/tokin OE128 in laptop motherboard?

That wire is too long and thin. Tens of amps of current flow to the CPU. Only the outer strips need to be directly connected. I would use 4 component lead offcuts that I have handy here.
Its going to be tricky finding space for the wire and the capacitors.
If there is enough height clearance, you could mount the capacitors on edge.
This will leave more space between them.
            Send another picture later.

don't need because 256mb is internal, which is not removable.

I repaired a board yesterday that did that, it needed new tantalum caps on the Vcore section. So it's entirely possible something's up with the caps, maybe ESR out of range, etc.

Do you still have that short? If so that will be why.

Do you get any vcore voltage across the caps at all?

I've also seen this on a board that needed an NB reflow, though.

Re: How to replace nec/tokin OE128 in laptop motherboard?

Story of my laptop and my repairing on it. . . .

1st of all, when i opened and saw the situation of nec tokin, i discussed my problem on this forum and upload its pictures.
Someone said to replace it by 4*330uf,2.5v.
                                I searched for 4*330uf,2.5v but i found 3*330uf,2.5v and 6*220uf,4v and 5*330uf,20v and 5*220uf,20v.
Someone said to replace it by 5*220uf.4v or 3*330uf,2.5v 1*220uf,4v.
1st i don't removed nec tokin and add 2*330 in blank spaces which are already given near the upper side of nec tokin and near the already putted 330d, the and - lines are the same for all.
Then i fitted its processor, fan, hdd, invertor and LCD. Only these things i fitted. After fitting the battery i pressed power on button it showed same problem which was that restart again and again and start sometimes after couple of restartings.
Then opened laptop again and i removed nec tokin and place 5*220g. Now i fitted its processor, fan, hdd, invertor and LCD. I don't fitt ram because 256mb ram is internal of it. Only those things i fitted which are necessory. After fitting the battery i pressed power on button here it showed new problem which was that indicators light up and immediately off at a time but no fans no hdd run and i hear 'tekk'. I pressed power button again, it showed this again and 'tekk'. Note: (when i fitting black and white wires of invertor of lcd which are coming from lcd, i forgotten that which is for which side means i perhaps fitted black wire in the place of white wire and white in the place of black but when i faced new problem i changed it but problem was the same means indicators light up and immediately off).
Then i removed processor and all things again and removed 5*220g and putt again 3*330uf,2.5v 1*220uf,4v.
Then i fitt meccessory things(processor, fan, hdd but now i don't set lcd ) again but when press power button i face same new problem means indicators light up and immediately off.
In all work i tried these combinations of caps:-
                                5*220g.
                                6*220g.
                                3*330e 1*220g.
                                3*220g 2*330e.
                                2*330d 2*220g.
                                6*330d.
And more which i forgotten then i solded 4 wires and checked different comb.
Sometimes to checking differ. comb. I fitt only processor, fan and hdd. And doing this again and again most of the paste between the processor and heat sink was gone. After couple of changing combination of the caps sometimes i short it i connected the plus and minus lines each other but nothing happened problem was same not less nor gain.
Then i putt battery and place positive line of multimeter on positive of battery and negative line place on different places of PCB of motherboard. I find, current is vary on most places but where was nec tokin there current is same means if battery current is 10.31v, it show 10.31 on both sides( and -) of the capacitors, capacitors, which are putted in the place of nec tokin.

Now i removed all the caps including two already putted 330d near the nec tokin place.
                                Now i planed to clear it by petrol and then . . . . . . You say . . . . .
                                What i do next. . . . . .
                                Please please please Please suggest me best . . . . . .
                                I'm waiting thirstily. . . .
                                Thanks in advance. . . .

(My english a bit poor please read carefully. I hope you are understand, if, where you feel confuse during reading, please say me, i will try again to say you. thanks).

Hang on a minute, is this for the CPU VCORE power? Because if there's 10.3v on then a) something is probably damaged beyond repair and b) your capacitors will have been fried.

you just use 4 pcs of 330d (Not 330e or 330g or others). Must Work if there is only token problem.

He said there's 10.3v across the caps - if that's in the processor power section something is seriously wrong.

Honestly I would just ditch the board at this point.

This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

                                            Hi All,

So my friend was visiting and he wanted to use my solder bench to solder on some WLED circuit board. My laptop was open on the side for RAM upgrade. I know my mistake.

So while soldering he had too much solder on the soldering iron tip and he just shook off the soldering iron on the table itself to remove extra solder on the soldering tip and it landed on the motherboard of laptop. He then out of fear tried to remove it using solder wick and did more damage by removing some components as well. So here I am with weird situation.

                                            I have not tried putting...

I was trying to fix my old laptop that has stopped displaying image a long time ago. It boots up, lights light up, fan spins but no image. Conned it to TV by HDMI cable, but it was unsuccessful. Components look intact, no water damage/corrosion on the board.

I don't really value this laptop too much, so I wanted to ask anyone for a schematic/boardview file or anything that describes motherboard in a simillar faison. I want to experience a challenge of figuring...
