    Dell screen compatible ?

Hi, is possible to put 15" SXGA+ instead 15" XGA I mean is a chance to this work ? dell d 520 has sxga+ 1400x1050 and d 505 with xga has 1024 X 768 resolution. Im in dilema, because I cant test, i dont both have both with me.

          Re: Dell screen compatible ?

Each dell screen has it own BIOS. Even if you replacing for exactly the same screen you have to read that chip on old screen and dump it to new screen to make it work properly with mobo.
Things are complicated when you trying to switch for a diferrent screen. If you know how to edit that dump , compare it to original and change something it can work but there is a lot of work to do to make it work. Basicly it will not work without any changes.

I've replaced several Dell laptop screens with the same model/type (but not the same brand) without needing to do any BIOS adjustments. What are you referring to?

I have done this on Dell as well since the model I worked on you can order the same computer model number but with Good/better/best screen option. I found other spare LCD screen (not the same manufacturer as original) we have to use and it has better resolution than the original, I did not have to do anything in the BIOS either, but I have to look up the screen spec to make sure the pinouts are the same.

                  Re: Dell screen compatible ?

I was looking for a screen by the screens model number recently on ebay.
Found a few on there, but looking into the screens details of one seller, the seller had listed a load of other laptops that the screen would fit.
but there was a warning by the sellers saying something along these lines,
(Do not buy this sreen if your laptop is a Dell, even if the screens model numbers are identical, its not compatable with Dells screens)
Why this was I dont know
But there must be something in what Gabik111 post is refering to

                    Re: Dell screen compatible ?

I'm trying to tell you guys that every screen got its own eeprom chip with programed dump. I was working with few of dell laptops and get this problem. Sometimes it was working without any additional moves . If the screen was removed from dell and put to other brand laptop it was working fine but in opposite way I had to keep this eeprom chip and put it to new screen because screen was showing me some lines , wigneting or was too dark (yes , I know that inverter adjusting brightness but propably this eeprom chip has connection with inverter).
Just mentioned this to let you know that in my situations it was a problem.

Is brightness controlled via the screens name (which ist stored in the eeprom and compared with a predefined table in the systems bios) or are there some bytes in the eeprom which are read and programmed to the inverter?

Screens with back lights are in short supply so screens are now being made with led back lights with akit that modifies them for known models the reason it says don't use for dell with same number is the connections are different you must get the correct one for your model made for dell.

                            Re: Dell screen compatible ?

Well as gabik111 already said, not only the right connector is important but the screen also needs the correct eeprom. If its not then brightness control will not work correctly and the screen stays more or less dim. To solve this you need to dump your original eeprom and program in the timing and resolution information obtained from the new screens eeprom. This way you get your replacement screen work flawlessly.

                            The tools:
                            - Viewsonic EDID Editor (for comparind and building the EDID proms)
                            - Ubuntu Linux 12.10 (for dumping and programming eeproms)

I used a live DVD where I had to install i2c-tools additionaly (may be downloaded from the distributions website).

On thinkwiki you'll find a HOWTO which describes what to do, it works quite well for Dell machines to. I don't know if links are allowed to be posted, but if you google "thinkwiki edid" the relevant posts come up.

I am a pro and I have a problem that I have never seen despite my 7.5 years of experience on my own and my thousands of repairs, on a customer's Dell G3 15 3500.

On this PC I have already changed the complete palmrest because the keyboard was no longer working properly.

I also changed the screen because the PC fell and the screen was broken.

I changed the battery with a new and original battery.

I also had corrosion/oxidation on the...

                              Hi everyone,

I'm working on a Dell G15 5515 (Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3050 Ti) and recently installed a compatible 4-zone RGB keyboard and controller (for Dell G15 5510/5511/5515 models). While the keyboard functions for typing, the RGB lighting is not detected by Alienware Command Center (AWCC), which displays “No AlienFX devices found.”

                              What I've Tried So Far:
                              • Reseated the cables.

i purchased a used dell e6540 laptop used 10 months ago from a vendor on ebay. intel i-7 processor, 16 gb ddr3 memory, 256 gb ssd., mobo la-9413p (rev 1.0 dated 2014-08-04). i've inflicted no damage on it since purchase but its past is unknown. starting 2 weeks ago it began to fail to boot (initially 9 of 10 boot attempts failed, now 10 of 10 fail). there was no new hardware or software added (i was using as a kodi video server). the post process doesn't complete and booting no longer displays the dell logo screen - screen remains black with no backlight. some other...

Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...
