Clevo M77Sx, Fan Do Not Turn On When Power On Process, Sometimes it turns on!

    Hello Guys,

i have some issues with my new latop which i bought from ebay as used.

    Model: Clevo M77S 17"
    -------------------------------
    mainboard nr: nkm770su8k00209
    6-71-m74so-XX-XX
    Some Info:
    Bios revision: 1.00.09NX
    KBC/EC Firmware Revision: 1.00.05
    I got a t3200 @ 2ghz

    VGA Card: nVidia 9300M GS
    VBIOS Revision: 62.98.2E.00.A1
    VBIOS Build Date: 08/01/08
    ---------------------------------

Sometimes the laptop turns on and it runs into windows.

But sometimes it is not booting although I press 10 times the power on key.
    What I did`?

I opened the Notebookcase and controlled the Fan-Voltage and Fan-speed .
The Fan do not turn on. I measured the voltage on the red and black pin when i push the power on keytop and leds lights up and dvd is searching...i can measure only 0,5Volts. I think the fan need 5Volts ?

Why do not starts the fan to run during the power post process? And when it runs into windows it does not start the fan also.

I checked the temperature during my observation whith opened notebookcases.

The cpu and gpu getting very hot, but i shuted the notebook down to not burn the cpu and gpu.

Is it possible that the guy flashes the wrong bios or this bios do not turn the fan on ?

Would be happy if you have some information for me to solve the problem?

might be that i reball the gpu? i am confused why the fan do not goes on during the power on phase ?

    TIA

    Okay Guys,

i disassembled the notebook again and found out that the notebookcase
fits not rigid in the case. The Mainboard is round a bit 200 mm x 200 mm small and placed into the left corner of the bottom-case which is 450 mm x 300 mm case, i mean a lot of space from the mid to the right side. The Mainboard is only half size of the case is..

You twirl the case on a easy way if you press on the bottom right corner of the notebook, you can see that the upper left corner of the notebbook mainboard moves a little bit.

Exactly on the upper left corner is the power supply whre the 19 V jack is.
I am thinking that one smd part in the powersupply has not full contact to the motherboard. I found also out that 20 mm from the power input is mounted a 10 x 10 mm^2 chip it is called SC452-0828-CC12488-1.
Is this the powerswitch or maybe the Bios?
I do not know, but it seems that in the moment of moving the Notebook (not softly) the notebook fries and reboots.

At the moment i assembled it fix and the Notebook starts when i press 2-5 times power-key.
That means that something of the soldered parts or part loose the contact.

Should i catch may fan-heater and try to heat the power area up?
To resolder, i know that i am a rookie.
Yesterday i rund windows xp on it and start 3 times the 3dmark06 benchmark programm to look if the problem lies on the GPU-Craphic card. But it runs very well the fan colled the cpu and gpu not over 63 GRAD CELSIUS, the processor was round about 55 Grad Celsius.

I mean when it runs it runs whitout problems. But when i sut it down and the notebook cools down and then i try to start again it is possible that i need 2-6 times to boot this machine.

I would be happy when you guys out there would give me a idea?

Or should i dissassemble again and makes some pictures.
    TIA

Anyone faced this laptop, it start sometimes (when it starts it frezzes later on).
Ram changed, and cpu (no bga yet touched).
      Had x2 SiS671 and nvidia 9300m GS.

Does it just hang? or does it show graphical corruption

          Sadly only freezing.
Thought its the CPU but its not, neither the bios, neither the hdd and neither the ram's .
Only think are the BGA's or voltage drop around the board.

My money's on the northbridge. As far as i've heard those crappy SiS chipsets need to be replaced, they will most likely burn in the reballing process. I haven't had any of them in so i cannot comment myself.

Well this board is strange, after reflow it works for few boot ups. Now I am wondering is it maybe that the BGA needs reball, or some other component gets heat during this period and works for a bit (few hours).

My money's still on the northbridge. But also, the 9300m is on the defective chipsets list from nvidia so it may need replacement. If it's the 9300m that's broken, reballing will not help.

Try the following: Use your hot air station to heat just the die of the nvidia GPU for a couple minutes. Temperature should be set around 300C or so, nothing that would melt solder from a distance. Then fit the heatsink without allowing it to cool and power it up.

If it works now and then stops working when it cools down, the nvidia's broken.

I'dbet not on the nb i have reflowed it and it didn't work even for an hour. Heating nvidia chip gets it to work. Safe bet needs a new one .

did u make PROPER reflow or just light heatup?

Ofc proper, won't reball it yet since the client isn't responding on the price.
Will give it today a "light heatup" as you said, to refer will it start if it starts don't have to look any more.
As Unique said reball isn't really worth it (1-3 months) isn't really a fix.

Ok I skipped the "light heatup" and went again for a reflow but with bigger dwell time on liquid phase.
Results = laptop works. So will offer a reball with a pinch of salt or chip replacement.
